Best Mushies and Soft Foods

Recommended Posts

I am 9 days out.....tomorrow I get to start mushies and soft foods.

I have seen the list:

cottage cheese

Hummus

greek yogurt

refried Beans

Scambled eggs

does anyone have any "meal" like tips?

We are having company tomorrow night and they do not know I am banded. I am trying to think of something that we can serve that will also feed me without calling attention to myself.

In hindsight I would not have hosted so soon after being banded...but this was planned before I got my date.

hmm, i don't get to start softs until a month out, but things like mashed potatoes, mac and cheese [although its fattening] vegetables.

you could even make a Soup.

as long as you chew your food very thoroughly you shouldnt have a problem.

A few random ideas:

For Breakfast, I have been making myself a little Breakfast "burrito" with a one egg omelet instead of a tortilla. I beat an egg and empty it into a nonstick skillet and tilt the skillet a little to spread it fairly thin. Then I flip it and sprinkle with cheese and put about 1/3 cup of refried Beans in the middle and roll it up like a burrito. I eat about 1/2 of one of these for breakfast. I like it because it's portable and I can make it ahead and reheat.

How about tuna noodle casserole with extra tuna and lowfat cream Soup as a sauce?

Well im a big fan of mashed potatoes but im a lil scared to try starches so i went on the cooking portion of this webpage and found this recipe

"Kate's Cauliflower will satisfy the craving for mashed potatoes - and it's healthy. Take a large head of cauliflower, steamed soft. ((Nat's note: I will probably steam it in FF chicken broth to infuse a bit more flavor)) Mash with 1 ounce low fat cream cheese, 1/4 cup low fat sour cream, 1/4 cup parmesan cheese and 1 to 2 tablespoons of Smart Balance (a healthy butter-like spread made of vegetable oils). Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste."

and i dont know if you like tuna but its a great way to get some Protein in ya.

Make stuffed shells with low/no fat cheeses and eat them "unstuffed". That's what I did and told people I was carb cutting.

I make this sans shells all the time and mix in sauce and garlic, I call this "Ricotta Mush" and it is a staple now after I get a fill or whenever...

Maybe just tell your guests that you were banded? Saves questioning looks.

Or put mostly mushies on your plate with some other stuff and move it around to look as though you are eating.

I went to a party about 9 days post-op. I had some appetizers. I had been moved to soft solids by then, I think. That was nearly 2 years ago now. But I was able to eat some cheese and soft stuff. No one noticed.

You don't mention if you are hosting a sit down type of thing. If not, I bet no one will even notice what you are eating. Just carry a plate around with something on it. You'll be surprised!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
