becacloud9 3 Posted January 8, 2010 Hi.. Yes, You can have your surgery while your on your period. I did.. I thought the same thing.. You just might want to mention it to the nurse when you go in that day for surgery, just tell them you need to keep your undies on.. And I made sure I made one last trip to the rest room before I went into surgery.
Ses 0 Posted January 8, 2010 I was wondering the same thing... am going in for repositoning surgery next week and I think it's going to have some embarrassing timing... -blush- >.>
becacloud9 3 Posted January 8, 2010 Actually, now that I think of it.. It seems like when I went in, my period seemed to stop right after the surgery I don't know if it had something to do with the anesthesia, I'm sure? I thought that was strange for me. But don't worry about that. I remember the nurses telling me they have ladies come in like that all the time.. But I know, we just think of everything!! :tt1:
MyDay2Shine 1 Posted January 8, 2010 I had my period during my surgery. It was no big deal (then again I am an OB nurse). I let the pre-op nurse know and she gave me mesh panties and a pad. I remember my tummy being a little sore that night when I was taking care of "things". This is a popular question around here, seems like more ladies end up having their period than not. (I'm sure it just feels like that). Remember no one will care as much as you do, all will be fine. Good Luck!
SoccerMomma73 1,867 Posted January 9, 2010 I had to stop my birth control 4 days before the surgery (increases risk of blood clots) so I cheated and stopped a week early so my period would be the week before and I wouldn't have to worry about it around surgery time. Worked like a charm!
janellody 3 Posted January 9, 2010 I was actually wondering about the whole birth control thing. I read on someone's post that they had to stop BC for a month before? I am wondering what my doctor is going to say... :tt1:
SoccerMomma73 1,867 Posted January 9, 2010 I was actually wondering about the whole birth control thing. I read on someone's post that they had to stop BC for a month before? I am wondering what my doctor is going to say... :tt1: My doc makes you stop 4 days before and stay off for a month after. If I stopped 4 days before I would have started my period the day before surgery and surgery day would have been a flood, something I didn't want to deal with so I stopped the pills about 10 days before and was nicely finished by surgery day. Worked like a charm!
thebandedgirl 0 Posted January 9, 2010 I was on BC when I had surgery in June and I will still be on BC when I have my revision next week. I wasn't told to stop taking it and I made sure my surgeon knew about all of my medications.... Hrm.
