How Long Does The Pain Last???

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I will be 4 weeks post op and I am still experiencing discomfort and pain under my left breast when taking deep breaths. I am a little concerned but should I be? Will this go away or is this what I should expect from now on?

I wish I had an answer for you but I don't. I am 9 days post op and still experiencing severe back pain between my shoulder blades. When I tell my dr, he thinks I am exaggerating. Hang in there, we are in this together!

Just Breathe---

we had surgery the same day and I had the really bad back pains too. I went to the mall and found one of those chair massage places. I paid $20 for 20 minutes and the girl worked major wonders on my back and shoulders. It was amazing and I feel so much better.

squeezie--- I don't know what to suggest for you. have you talked to your doctor?

No I haven't gone to see my primary yet. I am in the process of finding a new primary. Hopefully when I go to get my 1st fill next week the surgeon will tell me something.

Squeezie, it is most probably a gas pocket. I know you probably heard all this before, but are you walking? I started walking my 2nd day and kept increasing it every day. Also, maybe try some extra strength gasX, if it's gas, the only way it will feel better is help your body get rid of it. Good Luck!

Hello......I just had surgery yesterday and have not experienced the gas pains yet that everyone is talking about. Does that come later? Or would I have already experienced it? Thanks so much for your advice!

I also got banded yesterday, at about 2pm, and started feeling the gas pains in the later evening. Are you getting pains in your shoulders at all? I just finally started burping tonight, thank god, and that's helping relieve the gas pain. It's not too severe, but it's noticeable!

I was banded on the 2nd of jan. and I had alot of pain in my back as soon as I got out of surgery. It sounds like you may be the lucky one with no real gas pains:smile:.

When I got banded I didn't feel the gas pains until the 4th day and all I can is wow I didn't expect to feel that kind of pain and it lasted for 2-3 days. I hope you don't have it as long as I did.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
