Hello!...Post Surgery Newbie

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm Emily, and I had my lapband surgery on Dec. 29. I have had my first week follow up visit, but that's all. I'm anxious for my incisions to completely heal and hoping the scars aren't too bad. I'm also looking forward to being far enough past my surgery date that I can start getting fills. It's been a little over a week since my surgery, and I've lost roughly 11 pounds!! Very happy about that!

I to was banded on Dec 29th and have lost 11 pounds. I feel like I could eat anything I want right now (I dont) but it is real hard to resist. Do have the same feelings since there's no restriction?

first couple weeks are the toughest. I was banded on 10-06-09 and am now down 56lbs post surgery and went from a 46 jeans down to a 38 and I have not been exercising that much. Work with your band and your DR. and it will work for U!

Thanks for the suggestion, Pipedoc. Wow! 56 lbs. in 3 months. That's great!

LaLaBreeze, I do feel that way a bit. I feel like I could eat more than I am, just not as much as I did before the band. The urge is still there to eat more. I definitely am looking forward to being able to switch to normal food or at least get off the pureed diet. But I'm learning to listen to my body's cues. I crave food, but it's easier now that I have the lapband. And I imagine once we start getting fills, it will be a lot easier.

The switch from liquids to mushy foods was heavenly for me, but the switch to solid foods was frightening. I was so afraid I was going to screw something up by not chewing enough, talking bites larger than I should have, etc. But it's been fine :tt1:

The time to your first fill will go faster than you think!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
