Tips for not drinking after eating?

Recommended Posts

What a fabulous idea.. a spray bottle. Way to think! :-D I don't have the drinking while I'm eating problem, as I've never been a big drinker, but I love this idea. It was so creative.

Last time we went to our local chinese buffet restaurant, and they asked me what I wanted to drink and I said nothing, our waiter did a double take and squawked out "NOTHING???" It was so funny.

Then, when we went to a Captain D's restaurant (for my hubby) and I said I didn't want anything to drink, they gave me a small Water anyway.

For me, it's easier to not drink anything at home or when I eat Breakfast or lunch at work, because my meals aren't salty. However, when going out, the meals are usually pretty salty so I end up taking tiny sips. I bet the amount I drink when I do go out is less than one tablespoon.

I like the tips above, but sometimes I think it's just a matter of conditioning ourselves to not do it any longer. I liken it to my not stopping the consumption of diet pepsi until the very last moment (night before the surgery). Once banded, I knew I just couldn't do it any more, so I didn't. (BTW, it still sucks not having my diet pepsis!)

Good luck finding what works for you Kstate, and let us know how you're doing!

Hello my name is Amy and I am a drinker too!!

I swear, before I was banded I could have a drink sitting with me to eat and I would never drink it, but now that I know I CAN'T do it, I am soooo thirsty when I eat. It's funny what our minds can do to us LOL. I am going to try the ice thing too!!

So everyone says (including my surgeon) not to drink for 30-60mins after eating because it washes the food out of the pouch into the larger part of the stomache....but I can't stop drinking!

It's usually Water or milk, (I don't do alcohol or sodas) and that, by far, has been the hardest habit to break after being banded.

I've been told to ask the waitresses at resturants to not bring you a drink at all, but what about when you're home? Drinking Water is an obsession of mine or something...I can't not drink...lol

I know I'm sabotageing my own weight loss by doing this...so help me! How can I stop?

Well as far as i think my opinion would be please follow the direction as recommended by your docter as you need to take note of each precautions after having lap band surgery. If after taking meal you drink so much of water then you are required to change your habit for your goodness only as it tends to put pressure on the band and may cause lap band slippage. I struggle with the no drinking at mealtimes issue too. Depending on what I am eating I will sip Water if necessary. My Dr prefers if I dont, but he said as long as I do not overeat and keep on losing he won't beat me up over it.B)

I still do miss my Diet Coke. 10 weeks and you would think it the craving would pass.... its hasnt. My hubby even poured one over the weekend and left it to go flat. I had it 5 hours later.... took 3 sips and dumped it..... it was horrible!

I would drink with and right after my meals up until last July or August (I had surgery in Feb.), but now I absolutely cannot drink while eating or even about an hour after eating. If I do, I will be in major pain.

My issue isn't drinking with dinner ... its drinking coffee with breakfast!! The only habit I cannot break! I will give up Breakfast just as long as I can have my coffee!

I posted this same question on here about drinking coffee and of course there are so many different ideas. I wondered why we can't drink before a meal when the liquid should just go through if there's no food to wash down. Then eat...my problem would be solved. (That's what I've been doing actually)

I am also having a hard time with drinking. My Dr says no liquid 30 min before/after a meal. I need to try the ice idea that seems to be a good one.

So many changes...it can be very overwhelming at times!!!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
