Haven't been hungry what-so-ever

Recommended Posts

So I was only banded on Monday January 4th, but I haven't been hungry at all since the surgery. I've had some broth a couple times, some Jello, but otherwise I've been living off of grape sugar free kool-aid. Is this normal? I'm just worried because with the grape kool-aid if I've only been living off of that, I'm only getting like less than 100 calories a day, is that healthy? Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

It is totally normal not to feel hungry for about a week or week and a half after surgery. This is because your stomach is swollen from surgery. Once the swelling has gone down the hunger will return with a vengeance and you will have to rely on your own will power to not overeat until you get a fill or two in you.

You need to be following your surgeon's guidelines as far as proper nutrition post-op. However, I do remember only having broth, Water and and sf Jello for the first week.

Don't hesitate to call your doctor if you have questions. That's what he gets paid for.

Yup, enjoy not being hungry, soon enough you'll head the other direction :smile2:. Follow your guidelines. My surgeon requires you to drink 64 oz of no sugar added fruit juice mixed 50/50 with water...helps keep your energy level from crashing so low. I think I averaged 500 calories a day the first week...now averaging 1000-1200 (3 weeks post op) but fairly certain I could eat a cow, as long as I took small bites and chewed well!

I'm ~5 weeks out and I still don't get hungry or think about food 24/7. I only eat when my stomach growls at me at meal time. It's great not to obsess about what my next big fat meal will be!

I hardly have an appetite at all..no bandster hell for me.

I also was hardly thirsty my first 2 weeks...I lived on Tomato Soup, capri sun juice, sf Jello, Water and beef and chicken broth.

I had surgery on the 8th and for the two days after it I only had Water, broth, ice chips, and maybe 3 SF popsicles total. I counted my calories yesterday and it was about 75 calories. Today I am allowed to start my full liquid diet and I am scared I am going to gain weight back or stop losing. I am trying to stomach down a bottle of the Isopure drink right now but its yucky haha and also one bottle is 170 calories which is alone a lot more than I had yesterday. I am not feeling hungry at all yet which is good, but I don't know if not eating enough is going to make me lose slower because my body goes into starvation mode (how do i know when this happens?) or if I start eating more will I gain?!

Starting to feel a bit confused...oh well :/

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
