getting frustrated!

Recommended Posts

seriously.

for about 6-7 mos now, i've had nothing but problems... i get sinus infections and upper resp infections often due to my allergies. once i get sick, my band get tight and i have to get Fluid out. then once i'm better, i get it back in.

it seems like i'm there every 6-8 weeks doing this. i am getting sick of it.

like now for instance. i went in the week before xmas due to being very sick and had fluid taken out. went in this past monday to have it put back in since i felt 100% better. did fine after the fill and did fine yesterday (tues). got up this morning and tried to drink a protien drink and have been sick all day long. i cannot keep anything down - including liquids.

called the doctor and will have to go into the office tomorrow around 4. so that means nothing to eat/drink until tomorrow evening.

this is getting frustrating and i just dont know what to do anymore. i want to keep my band because when it's all good, it works perfectly! i just dont know what to do.

when i voice my concerns to my surgeon, he just says that i must be sensitive.

anyone know what could be going on or what i could do? maybe i should just have everything taken out and start completely over with my fills?? ugh!

Well, I can acertainly sympathize with the upper respiratory roller coaster. I rode it for years! A few things to consider.

1. Do you have any allergies? You may not know for sure but you might discuss this with your general physician. Even mild allergies can lead to post nasal drip which puts mucous down your esophagus and that can in turn create a mucous plug. Yiou might try drinking a cup of hot (as hot as you can comfortably drink) tea or coffe before meals and see if that breaks up the mucous plug.

2. I was hospitalized 3 times in 18 months with bacterial pneumonia. I had numerous bouts with bronchitis and ear infections and sinus infections. I was a mess. Once I was well for a s couple of days my doctor gave me a vaccination for viral pneumonia. Yeah, I know sounds like it's not related but it worked. Apparently what was happening was that I would get a mild viral infection with the virus that causes viral pneumonia. I wouldn't even be aware of it and then a secondary bacterial infection would settle in. The vaccination is called a pneumovax and insurance should cover it and you have to repeat it something like every 5 years. My first one was in the mid-80s and I have had bronchitis exactly 3 times in the more than 20 years since then.

3. If nobody is sure about the allergy question, you might get a referral to an asthma & allergy specialist. Mine did a pretty comprehensive interview, did only about 20 skin tests for specific allergies -- and I tested positive for 17...yeah, 17! He did immunotherapy (injections) and included "adult B virus" in my mix because I was getting sick so often. Now, I never, ever have an allergy problem. None. It was worth it.

Let us know what you figure out. Unfortunately, sometimes the patient has to ask the right questions. Maybe this will help you find the right questions.

in addition to getting yourself checked... it sounds like you house may be "sick". it may be worth getting an inspection to check for mold and other environmental issues.

i had a roof connection leak that manifested itself in my walls and not on the ceiling. my daughter was very sick for a long time until i discovered the Water damage in her wall. since pulling out all the drywall and redoing the roof she has not had many out of the ordinary colds. scray and upsetting stuff to discover, let me tell you....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
