I am 6 days post op and I am having alot of trouble with hunger. Today I ate a Martha White blueberry muffin and have had no pain or nothing. I don't understand this, My stomach feels fine it hurt the first few days after surgery. I feel like I can eat anything, I know this is not normal. I have called my doctor and they said everything is fine. I don't want to stretch the pouch but good grief. I mean this is driving me nuts.:(

It is totally normal. Your band has little to no restriction. Try to stick to your post-op instruction. I doubt muffins are on the list. If it is a moist muffin, you run the risk of getting stuck on it, which could be VERY painful this soon post-op.

If you are ready for foods that are more solid, ask your doc if you can move on. Foods with Protein will hold you longer than things like muffins, and foods that are more solid, like eggs or oatmeal, will hold you longer than a Protein shake.

Best wishes in your recovery,

Denise

Actually, it is normal and yes, everything is fine.

My post op diet was different than many here. My doctor had me on each phase of the diet (liquids, purees, etc.) for only 2-3 days at each phase so by the end of two weeks I was back on regular foods so I didn't have to deal with the hunger that so many here have had to deal with.

Unless your doctor put a fill in at surgery, and most don't, you will be able to eat anything you want...right up until you start getting fills and some type of restriction. I had two fills, 3 cc each at 4 weeks and 6 weeks post op and still had no restriction and could eat as much of anything that I wanted.

Until I had restriction I didn't really worry too much about eating only 1 cup of food. I just tried to watch what I ate, making good choices and ate like a normal weight person.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
