I'm officially banded....

Recommended Posts

Hi...

I had my surgery last Friday, November 14th. I went home the same night.

I'm really, really sore. I expected some soreness, but I didn't expect not to be able to get out of bed on my own. I've read where some said they took little or no pain meds when they came home. I have been rationing out my pain meds, but if I had a larger supply I'd be taking them all the time. I'm not a baby about pain, I've had other surgeries, four children, etc. It just seems more painful than I'd read other people saying.

This evening I've developed a low grade fever (100) that I'll call the dr. about tomorrow.

feeling a little depressed....Wish I could have stayed in the hospital until I felt like interacting with my family. The kids got on my nerves bigtime this weekend. Watching them eat takeout all weekend wasn't fun either. Not that I wanted anything...but it was just not fun.

Sorry to whine....

Linda

Hi Linda -

Welcome to bandland, and congratulations. I was one of the ones that took the surgery kind of hard - even though I KNOW I am a pain weenie, I kept reading what a "walk in the park" it was for so many - how they took advantage of being in a foreign country and went sight-seeing the day after.

Lordy, Lordy! That so was NOT me!

My surgery was textbook, and I went home the next day. I had surgery on a Thursday, and went back to work that Monday. It was painful, but bearable. However, every teeny tiny second that I was not working, I was laying on my couch praying I wouldn't have to get up too many times. lol I don't think I slept in bed for three weeks after the surgery - just too hard to get up and down - the couch gave me more places to leverage myself with my arms.

Just don't overdo - once this passes, you'll feel good as new and the memories of this pain/discomfort will fade before you know it.

:D

Thanks for responding. :D

I do feel a little better today, and actually got out of bed by myself.

every day it will get a little better, and it will be a LOT better in a few months. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
