Do you have a latex allergy??

Recommended Posts

Just today I noticed my skin breaking out in a rash from my watch, no matter which arm it is on. My mom suggested I might have a latex allergy. Is having a latex allergy a problem with the LAP-BAND® surgery? Has anyone out there had a latex allergy and still went ahead with the surgery???? Thanks!

I have a latex allergy and am going ahead w/ the surgery. Be sure to tell your doc and the hospital so that everything will be latex free. I doubt the band is latex but some of the equipment like gloves need to be changed for your surgery. Latex is on ballons and underwear. Do you have any problems blowing baloons or wearing underwear around the bands? Hope that helps. I doubt your watch has latex but may be leather or it could be a nickle allergy.

Watch bands are usually leather or plastic, not latex. It could just be irritation on the skin, or you could be reacting to your own sweat, which does happen. Try wearing your watch looser, more like a bangle.

To test the latex allergy theory you can buy a pair of gloves at the pharmacy cheap. If you do get a reaction to them your doctor must know so that they can switch out their gloves for the nitrile ones (equally as good but more expensive)

As far as I know, the band does not have latex in it but check their website as it will probably say.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
