Type 2 Diabetic ... low blood sugar ...

Recommended Posts

I was banded June 15, 2009. I have been off my diabetes meds for about 4 months. My weight loss has been slow and steady since I hit my sweet spot (I think) about 2 months ago. My blood sugar numbers had been good (100 - 105, 106) until I decided to further cut my claorie intake so that I lose more weight faster. Of late (less than a week), my blood sugar has been low, 80-90 AND I am shaky. What's up with that?

My other question is, when you are off your meds does that mean you are no longer a diabetic or are you just "in remission" of sorts?

Any thoughts?

Remember that Protein and fat do not impact your blood glucose levels in any way. Carbs (including granulated and natural sugars) do. When you reduced your calorie intake, you probably just reduced your carbs too much. Try adding back a serving of fresh fruit like a small apple or a few grapes or even raisins.

And that shaky feeling SUCKS.

I am sure you are right, ParrotheadCathy. I guess I just didn't think that cutting my carbs so much would take me down ... but, again, I believe you are right. Reaching a happy medium is certainly a challenge for me ... always has been, I guess (hence my obesity ... lol)

Thanks.

Ive been banded for a year my bs ranges from 70-105 fasting OCC in the 60's. My meds have been reduced to 1/4th of what i was taking.plus my md told me not to take if my bs is < 90.sometimes i go 4 or 5 days without taking meds.also this is the 1st time i 've gone 6 months between visits. I think the potential is always there. U will bve diet controlled

Just for future information, 80 to 90 is not really low. It is only low if you have had consistantly high glucose levels over a period of time. 80 to 90 is actually ideal. Over time, it will feel normal again. I still take insulin 6 months out, but I do take a very small amount. I am in good control so I can be very low without knowing it. I have been as low as 23 with no symptoms before. This is rare, because I watch it like a hawk, but I said it to show that you should over time feel normal at 80 to 90 blood sugar.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
