Any January 11th bandsters out there????

Recommended Posts

Hey Dan! I am getting the Allergan Lap-band® system. My doc didn't require the pre-op diet but I gained about 8 pounds over the holidays. I've been watching what I ate and exercised a little and have lost it, thank goodness! My weight right now is 307 and I have to say that you have done a fantastic job on your own!!!! This band will be a great success for you and will help you keep it off and avoid that yo-yo thing.

I also will try to post when I am home on Tuesday.

Take care and BEST OF LUCK ON MONDAY!!

P.S. Don't forget to join the thread for January 2010 bandsters. We are posting on their post op.

Thanks. Good luck to you and everyone else. I'll post my experience as soon as I am able.

Dan

I posted in the "Surgery Day" thread, but forgot to post here. All went well on Jan 11th. Very little pain. My Dr. has all of his band patients spend the night. I'm glad I did because I had some problems with urination and some pain during the night which was well controlled with morphine. I finally did pass urine right before I was to get catheterized. I've been recovering well. No pain in the incisions or referred pain to the shoulders whatsoever. I was suprised at how long the incision for my port is. There are 11 staples in it, but no pain. Some crampiness and a lot of gas being passed. Fortunately, I have tons of leave accumulated at my job, so I am taking a full 2 weeks off, but I could easily go back today for administrative duties. I'm on Clear liquids with 1 or 2 Protein shakes per day. If I drink the Protein shake too fast I can feel the small pouch fill. All in all, much easier and painless than I anticipated.

Awesome to hear you are up and doing so well so soon Dan!! Today is my first "good" day and I still feel very weak in the legs and lightheaded/loopy. Hoping that feeling goes away soon because I have two little ones that are looking forward to a weekend of outside play with Mommy and Daddy. I'll have to take it easy and see how that goes. I've taken several daily walks to the mailbox (150 ft or so) and I think that has helped me. I plan to do more as I can.

Check back soon and glad to hear all went well!

Well, I got banded on Jan 12 by Dr Brett Cohen at Memorial Regional Hospital, Hollywood FL. Checked in at 7:00 am and was discharged at 1:30 pm. Home walking my Golden Retrievers soon after. Got some liquid pain medicine, took a little. No staples here....all disappearing stitches. Lots of bloat, gas, no shoulder pain though. Clear liquids only for 3 days and then full liquids, sugar free Jello, pudding, yougurt, high Protein Shakes, and creame Soup for next 10 days. Damn, even chicken salad or tuna salad would taste great! A few weeks down the road. I agree with Dan, the surgery itself is not the issue. The pre and post liquid diet is the bear. Can`t wait till Feb 11 and real food!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
