Has anyone been to Fairview University in Twin Cities, MN? Or if you're in Twin Cities, do you recommend another clinic / doctor? I'm planning to go with Dr. Daniel Leslie at Fairview University. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Hi! I DID have my surgery -- on March 26th! Things are going great. I've gotten my eating pretty much under control. Now I REALLY need to kick the exercise into high gear. I'm having some trouble with some nutrients -- potassium, B12, Vitamin D, and folic acid -- but I think that's fairly normal. I'm working with my PCP and Dr. Leslie and his office on it. I don't think I need to be in panic mode just yet.

When is your surgery? Let's keep in touch. Feel free to send me any questions you may have. Good luck and best wishes!

Toni

Glad to hear it went well! I am having it in November sometime. I meet with Dr Leslie again this month and then I should be able to get an actual date. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield so I have to wait the 6 months. How long did you stay in hospital and how long did it take you to recover? Good luck working out more- I know its hard!

I stayed in the hospital overnight, and I went home the next day. The gas pain was really bad in my shoulders, but other than that, I was fine. I was able to go home and function well -- with pain medication -- with no assistance.

I used to try to walk in the mornings before work, but now it's getting too dark. I'll have to figure out something else.

Hey Toni! Just wanted to check in with you and see how it is going since you've been banded! Hope all is well, have you had your first fill yet? I was also wondering how long and what kind of pre op diet you needed to do with Dr Leslie.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
