How Do You Log Your Calories?

Recommended Posts

I was going to buy a little notebook to carry around, but my DH bought an iphone for me and they have several apps that allow you to log calories, exercise, etc right on your phone. Very cool!

Does anyone use one of these apps? Which one do you like the best? I just bought the app Tap&Track. Look pretty cool -- has a built in database of food items to make calculating your intake easier.

What methods of tracking do you all use?

I use a plain old dietminder journal that my nutritionist gave me when I started the program. I bought a new one when I got banded to start fresh. Even though it started out to be a pain in the tush, I write in it faithfully every day. It keeps me straight (and God knows I need it LOL)

I use "Loseit" it has a data base of foods, allows you to create new foods and receipes, and track exercise

I'm the body bugg queen. I log everything I eat (as well as quantity) online and it tells me how much I need to move to burn it off.

@julian's mom Well it seems to be working for you, from the looks of things -- good job! I also like the feel of a pencil and a pad of paper in my hand over technology, but I have to admit that the iphone (as much as I fought getting one) really does make like that much simpler, as everything is right at my fingertips in one piece of electric circuitry.

@tarajim -- Is "loseit" an iphone app? Why do you like it so much? Have you tried others, and if so, how does loseit compare?

@Just Ice -- I can honestly say that I have never heard of body bugg, so you'll have to give me a pass on not having recognized your royal presence, lol. Tap & Track tracks exercise as well, and it also tells me how many calories I have left to eat in a day to stay under my goal, which I think is cool. I wonder if body bugg has an iphone app.

I have a cool program/ap on my iPhone. It logs your weight, goals, food, calories, and other nutrition stuff If you want. It is called "Lose it!" and it is FREEE!

I don't log food. I eat to my hunger level and try to focus on Protein, and steer clear of the junk.

If I get to a point where my weight starts to go up, then I might have to start tracking. I'll cross that bridge when it happens.

So far, this is working for me.

Pre-op, I was using www.my-calorie-counter.com. However, now that I have the band, I'm not counting calories. I'm still eating very limited amounts, so I'm not worried yet about calories. If that changes, then I may start counting again.

I use the online tools at www.lapband.com. It's really awesome and I track my activity too. I like that it keeps track of nutritional info in each food so you can see where you are lagging. I love it!

Very cool -- thanks! It seems like the majority with iphones use loseit over any other app. I'll check it out - thanks again!

I'm with Juliansmom, I have tried several different journals and I like the Dietminder one the best. On-line I use Sparkpeople, but only to look up calories. I don't use my journal all the time. Only when my band loosens up or I hit a plateau or I feel like my eating is getting out of control. I use it for a while to "re-focus" and then I go back to just self policing. It helps to take a break from it now and again.

Because remember, this is for life. There are going to be times you are strong and can do this without journaling and there are going to be times you need to keep track of every bite that goes in your mouth.

I am 18 months out from surgery and 30 pounds to go. My band is a little too loose and the Holidays kinda did me in, but I am journaling right now and staying focused until my next doctor appointment the beginning of February. Stay strong, you'll figure out what works for you.

I do best with an online journal of what I'm eating. I use www.thedailyplate.com and I stick to that better than if I had to hand write everything. It will also break down the nutritional info for me and you can log in exercise and find out how many calories you burn.

I used to use "Count it Off" - but Livestrong's Daily Plate actually has an iPhone app, so that's what I use now (and it syncs up with whatever I enter on the dailyplate.com website that I use when I'm at a computer).

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
