Is there anyone who was on the C-Pap machine prior and after surgery that is no longer on it? How did you determine that you didn't need it anymore?:blushing:

In the post-op class that I took, they told those of us w/CPAP to keep using it for 6 months, then ask for another sleep study to be retested before stopping it. Truthfully, I never got used to mine and never regularly used it before or after surgery. I know that is bad, but I just hate the thing.

I did use it the week before surgery and in the hospital because my surgeon required it, but I just can't get used to using it all the time. And, my husband says I don't snore unless I sleep on my back. So, I make a point to sleep on my side or stomach.

I was on a CPAP machine for 2 months prior to surgery but did not use it after the first 2 weeks of having it. I tried different masks, and different pressures. After my sleep study I was told that I had MINOR sleep apnea. The machine did not work for me, and I slept worse with it. I brought my machine to the hospital because the doctor told me to, but the nurses never made me use it. 2 weeks after surgery when I could get up and really move around good I brought it back to the place where I got it from. I know some people that use them and swear by them, but for me I couldn't stand the thing and was SO happy when I brought it back.

I have been using CPAP for almost 3 years now. 2 weeks ago I went to see my sleep doctor and she said that she wants me to lose 10 more lbs and then she will bring me back in for another sleep test to see if I still need the machine. I have lost in total about 50lbs (that's the pre-op diet too). So I'm hoping that this will be it for me. Since the surgery I do sleep without it sometimes and my husband has told me that he doesn't hear me snoring anymore. So that's a good thing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
