Anesthesia Question?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have their surgery done with MAC anesthesia? I was wondering if this is possible. Terrified of general anesthesia.

Hey bell,

General anesthesia isnt that bad (unless you got some health concerns) i was so scared myself but i did it anyway, All i remember is when they gave it to me my mom said i got this huge smile on my face and when they wheeled me into the OR i was singing along with the music until i went to sleep. The only down side i had was when i woke up, i was crying and so completely out of it but you wont remember much. Good luck

general is really not that bad...and usually they will give you a sedative when you are in pre op....i swear that stuff makes you have not a care in the world...i was always scared of general and i have had a few surgeries and i am still nervous going under but there is nothing wrong with being nervous...i think everyone is....do you have any other health issues cause if not then it should really be a piece of cake

Sorry I can't be of much help on this one. I was also operated on under general. Honestly, I was sitting down yesterday trying to remember going into surgery and I could only remember laughing at the surgeon because we were both singing together just before I completely went out.

As glynn mentioned, they give you a sedative before taking you down into the OR and that stuff is so good, I just loved everyone. When I woke up, all I wanted was to get settled into my room so I could see the Phils' game (it was the night they won the playoffs to go to the World Series) LOL

It really isn't that bad. I was paranoid about it for a long while, but it really ended up being the least of my worries :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
