Foods are just not appealing to me, anyone else?

Recommended Posts

I am going into my 5th week and I have gone thorugh many different stages in this. But I am on a diet at this point where I can have fish, pork, chicken etc as long as it is moist and cut up very small. NOTHING tastes good to me at all. I used to enjoy all of those foods and its just not the taste I enjoyed before. Is anyone experiencing this same problem? I know it is probably a good thing because it makes me stay within my portion but the foods are just not tasting good to me.

Beef isnt appealing me to at all anymore, no idea why. Even the smell of it cooking makes me feel sick.

thanks mimimeme that is exactly what I am feeling. So, what do you eat if the meat makes you sick? You look like your doing really well with your weight loss. 89 in 3 months, can you give me an idea of what you eat on a regular day?

Eating in general is less enjoyable to me. It's definitely more work. Trying to figure what I can eat, what I can't eat... who's watching... I have to be more careful when eating with friends who don't know I'm banded... don't want to start sliming in front of them. It was kinda sad at Christmas dinner. I had a tiny bit of turkey w/ gravy and it started to make me slime. ( My band won't tolerate chicken or turkey). Watching everyone else thoroughly enjoying their food and getting seconds was a little sad.

I have grilled or baked fish or chicken with veggies 2x a day. I still do a lot of Protein shakes (even though I know I should move on). For Snacks or in between larger meals I eat fruit and cheese or cottage cheese. And I also eat Breakfast cereals like barley, oatmeal and quinoa. And yogurt, eat a lot of yogurt.

I am probably too dependant on the Protein Shakes. But they are so much easier than having to worry about what to eat.

Thank you both for your input. I see so many messages about people starving so I was starting to think something was wrong with me. Have either of you had fills? And can you tell me more about this slime? I have not experienced this before.

Thanks Again

I have had one fill in 4 visits. They have been so pleased with my rate of loss, they tell me I dont need one. I really dont have much restriction though. Just after that first fill I had some, but mostly not now.

I have continued shakes for Breakfast because of choice and time, they take less time for me to consume that eggs, etc.

Thanks again for your advice you are an inspiration, congrats on your weight loss. I like this website but I get nervous when I read that people are having troubles and not losing weight, etc.

I do know everyone is different. I need to take this one day at a time, it is very new for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
