I have never suffered from heartburn! I got banded a little over a week ago. yesterday, I started transitioning to mushie foods, I had a very soft egg for dinner.< /p>

Today I had the same type egg. Got heart burn!

then lunch I had some mashed potato and gravy. Go heart burn!

Then just now I had very thin Soup hoping to avoid the heart burn. It didn't work!

why?

Please help! I'm so worried I caused a slip or something.

Have you tried an antacid?

It will give you some relief until you can figure if this is a problem.

Call your doctor on Monday. I was told that I should call right away if I have heartburn. In the meantime, go back to liquids.< /p>

Not to worry about slippage. You would absolutely know if it slipped. I have been banded for 8 years and I know that I have too much Fluid when my heartburn gets really bad. It's normal for you to have heartburn after surgery.

Funny...that's kind of what I think being 'stuck' feels like...a painful heartburn.

If you had surgery a week ago it's possible you still have restriction from swelling. When you ate the egg, it's possible it got stuck and you irritated it some more and may have swollen more.

Thin soup is good but sip it 'slowly'. I'd also call your doc's office and let them know. That's what they're there for.

My surgeon absolutely insisted I use prescription prilosec for the first two months and it really helped. Do you have a prescription for an antacid? Call your surgeon tomorrow and find out why not if not. It sounds like you really will need it.

I was more afraid if it was a sign of something else. I don't want to just cure the symptom and not the problem. Do you think it just heartburn and no big deal?

Hey there, just wanted to let you know that eggs can be difficult for some of us. I for one cannot do eggs if I have really good restriction. Scrambled seems worse than fried (weird huh?) I would go back to liquids for a day or so and let it settle down. If it is not better by tomorrow, call your surgeon.

Hope that helps

I actually never had heartburn and assumed the prilosec was doing it's job. I am no longer on it and can eat anything without getting heartburn so it has not been a problem for me. I would give my system time to settle down and if it doesn't go away I would definitely call the surgeon next week. I am sure they have something to give you. As far as treating just the symptom. I don't believe banding gives you long term heartburn unless you are already prone to it. I never had heartburn to begin with therefore, I don't have the problem. If you already had it to begin with, it may be a sign of a deeper issue and you may want to consult with your PCP.

Thanks so much I decided to just have Clear Liquids and wait it out. In the end I figured out I was moving too fast and needed to stick to full liquids.

In the end, I am pretty sure I was "stuck" but I didnt know it. :blushing:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
