Surgery Dec 29th! So Glad I had to stay in the Hosp. What was your experience like?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Dec 29th and my Dr. required me to stay 1 night in the hosp. I didn't want to at first because other Dr's don't make you stay. But I am SO grateful for it now. I don't know how people go home the same day. I was in a good amount of pain and the pain meds were awesome! lol.

They were also Giving me blood thinners every 8 hours and checking my vitals and had those things on my legs...kinda like massagers to prevent blood clots. I had an awesome surgeon and I was at a center of excellence hospital. I know all this was just a precaution but I felt so much better knowing I was in good hands in the event that something did go wrong.

Now i'm feeling much better but im still taking a tiny bit of my liquid vicoden. And I do have an extremely low tolerence for pain so that might have something to do with it.

I'm just wondering what other peoples experiences were like...either staying in the hospital one night or going home the same day...

Thank you!

My surgery was also the 29th, but I came home at 6:00 that evening. I don't much like hospitals, so I enjoyed sleeping in my own bed. The liquid Vicodin was sufficient, though I don't like the taste, so I quite taking it already. I wish the doctor had told me about going into kenosis and the bitter taste I would get in my mouth. Also wish I had known I would get diarrhea from the liquid diet. Now I have so much vaseline on my rear that nothing can burn it! lol Ouch, that area does not like a lot of attention!!

My surgery was the second case of the day. So I got to go home that day. Had it been later, I would have stayed. I also would have stayed if there were any complications. Nothing was set in stone until the release papers were signed.

At one point I wished I had stayed-I woke up during the night and the vicodin had worn off. I could not sit up. Had to wake the DH to get me some and help me get out of bed to use the bathroom.

A mechanical bed would have been nice for that. Don't know what I would have done without someone to help. I guess I'd have lost weight quicker! :smile2:

I was banded on 12/15 and also stayed overnight. I had a hernia repaired concurrent with the band placement. I had some trouble with nausia when I got up to walk, so my room nurse made the decision to keep me over. I too, was glad I stayed. Felt brand new the next morning

i had my surgery on 12/23 omg thank god i stayed over night. Loved the leg massager thingys but the one thing i couldnt stand was that they kept taking my vitals every hour. LOVED THE MORPHINE!!!!!!! and since i was in alot of pain the nurses gave me stuff that they give pregnant women when they are going into labor (dont remember the name, started with a T though) anyways everyone was really cool and i thank god i got the surgery in a quick timeframe. :smile2:

I was first surgery of the day and was sent home 2 hours earlier than they normally do because I was up and around 2 hours earlier, eating earlier, etc.

They didn't give me anything for pain in recovery because when asked "on a scale of 1 to 5, how's your pain" I apparently said 'zero'. Never needed it in the room over the next 4 hours either.

I did pick up the pain med from the pharmacy on the way home because I do have a low pain tolerance and figured I'd need it, but I never did.

The *only* thing I missed from not staying in the hospital was those wonderful little things they put on your legs to massage them. OMG...was that ever heaven!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
