feel no different and Soooo hungry

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 12/22. I have my post-op appt next Thursday. I've been doing my best to just drink the small amounts prescribed, but I have yet to experience any kind of satisfied feeling - I'm always hungry. And really thirsty. I've been sipping Water all day but I have to fight a constant urge to just guzzle it.

So I guess my question is, am I just going to always be hungry, yet eating small amounts for fear of stretching my stomach? How do I know when my stomach pouch is full?

This morning, I had 2 oz of yogurt and was still so hungry. I went ahead and finished the 4 oz container. I still felt hungry. I waited about 10 minutes before having some shake. 3-4 MC's of shake later, I made myself stop because I'm guessing at this point, I could be stretching my stomach pouch, right? But I was still hungry.

I mean, I guess I'll be in for a fill pretty quick and I hope it helps, but this feeling has been here since day two after the surgery, when my band area was supposed to be swollen almost closed or something.

I truely feel for you as I recently went through that as well. I was starving by about three days postop. (My surgery was Nov. 19, 2009) During the 2 weeks on the liquid stage after surgery it was pretty tough as I felt so hungry constantly. My stomach was so loud with all the grumbling!! When the pureed stage came the hunger wasn't quite as bad and then was even better when I could eat solids. My surgeon does not put in any fill whatsoever when the band is put in so there is no restriction. I didn't get my first fill until about 6 weeks later.

Hang in there. Thankfully it's a "not forever situation" and it will get better. You will feel it was so worth it once you get through this time in your journey and the pounds start coming off.

I think most of us felt that way a few days after surgery and before we could have anything even semi-solid. Once you to to food that has a little more constancy to it it will get better, and (I'm hoping) will get better after your first fill (Mine's in 11 days so I'll let ya know!). Hang in there, you can do it!!!

i had my surgery sept 4, 2009 and oh that is exactly the way i felt. i am someone who drinks Water like there is no tomorrow so it was really hard to get even sips of water down. i felt like my kidneys hurt from not having enough of water and i was soooo hungry. and i was like that until i started to get my adjustments. dont worry once u get the adjustments u will start to feel not as hungry. i think some people adjust to it right away but for me i think i wasn't really there until my third or fourth adjustment that i could finally feel myself getting full and not thinking about what do i eat next. i have to admit im not the best person at choosing the most healthiest foods but Portion Control due to the lap band has made a difference for me the progress is slow but i have patience. only advice i can give is chew slow little bites it is a ugly feeling when you eat too fast and it feels stuck in your throat.

good luck all!

Estee

I was banded 12/29 and I'm going through the same thing. It must have something to do with the liquids going right through us. It's only temporary and I look forward to the day when I can start eating solids. I've been putting a bit of greek yogurt in my Soup for extra Protein - it seems to help a little. Or try some plain greek yogurt with some banana Protein Powder - tasty, and greek yogurt has twice as much protein as regular yogurt. I hope it gets better for you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
