What weight to start from?

Recommended Posts

So here's the deal...I know when I did my consultation for the lap band they weighed me, that was in September. That technically was my highest weight ever.

However, two months later once I had my surgery...I had lost 5lbs. So what weight do I use as my starting weight?

I only ask because I noticed when I went to get my fill at the doctors, they were going off my surgery weight and subtracting. I kind of want to be on the same track as them.

So what weight? Basically for me its a 5 pound difference. And I'm pretty sure that I lost those 5 pounds from the 2 week pre-op diet.

Thoughts? Thanks.

My doctor uses my surgery weight. I use my weight the day I went into my consultation because just the act of making the decision to do this caused me to start monitoring my eating.

I don't worry what their paperwork says.

Not banded yet but I am definitely using my consultation weight afterward. I will be 75 - 80 pounds lighter than when I started by the time I have surgery.

I use the highest weight I saw on my scale because I had many ups and downs since my consultation (mostly ups). I was denied by insurance twice so it was a long process and I gained. I think my consultation weight was 236, but my highest ended up being 249 and my surgery weight was 242.

I just use my weight before I started my liquid diet because I feel that is when the weight loss truly began

It really doesn't matter.. do what you feel comfortable with. next you will look at your clothed weight vs. standed stark naked weight.. when you get close to onderland, you will be amazed at how you look forward to that number and will weigh yourself after an empty bladder.. The point here is that you go in the right direction and feel good about yourself.

I also go by my 2 week pre-op diet weight. While I tried to lose after the consultation, I wasn't all that successful, so my highest weight was well after consultation, but before the pre-op hospital testing appointment. So, I see more loss than my doc does.

I would guess the doctor wants to track changes directly related to the band. As for myself I track from 1st appointment since I was required to get down to a certain weight because of equipment limitations. So I had lost 68 lbs prior to surgery. to date i'm down 85lbs

There are lots of ways and time periods to use for tracking. The doctor is keeping track of post-surgery changes. I'm keeping track since I committed myself to this 7 months before my surgery. For me, the op was just part of the process and yes, things changed, but I lost almost 50 lbs before my surgery date and don't want to disregard that. Just do whatever makes sense for you.

When I started this whole deal I was 397 lbs and now I am 221lbs so it is a win win no matter how or who counts what. so big deal. The scale don't lie no more and really its just a number anyway. At this point I got 20lbs to go or so.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
