I was banded 11/30/09 and have not lost a single pound. I'm still 220. My bmi is a little lower... 33 at 5'8". I'm worried b/c i read posts by people who also started w/ a lower bmi and most have lost around 20 lbs by now. Aren't the first months supposed to be when you lose the most???

I know I'm healing, but I can eat quite a bit more than I thought I would be able to. I thought the purpose of the surgery was to limit how much you can eat, or make you feel full faster.

What are all of you who are successful eating? Any advice please!

You won't feel restriction until you start getting fills. A lot of the weight loss in the beginning is from the post-op diets and personal willpower.

Be patient, even though it is hard. Unless your stomach is really sensitive, you won't feel any restriction until you get your first fill, and then some people don't even feel restriction until their third fill. Even though you are frustrated, please don't allow yourself to get too tight, or stay too tight, just because you want restriction. In the long run, it causes many problems and isn't work the short term weight loss you may experience from it. Good luck and it WILL happen for you.

I was banded on October 14, 2009 and have lost only 3 pounds! I have had 3 fills and still feel almost no restriction.

This is very frustrating. I lost 17 pounds the 2 weeks prior to banding so my total weight lose is 20 pounds.

I was a very show loser. I didn't start to lose anything until 2 weeks post-op and then I averaged 0.5-1 lb. per week.

Many don't lose anything until they start getting fills. Don't get discouraged. I remember being on here and seeing others lose way faster than I was. I'd get so annoyed! But you know what? I continued on, and now, I am down 60 lbs. I am about 5 lbs. away from a normal BMI. My blood pressure is normal, my blood sugar is normal!

Just remember, this is not a race or a contest, you WILL succeed.

Continue to heal and look forward to fills.

Denise

It does happen that you can have 3 fills and feel very little restriction, but I would probably ask how much your fill doctor how much you have in your band. Then before your next fill, make sure they withdraw the Fluid before giving you the fill to make sure all that is supposed to be in there is really IN there. They could possibly have missed the port at one fill or you could even have a leak. It may also be that you just need a lot of Fluid before you feel restriction and it just isn't enough yet, if your doctor is conservative. My friend, banded 2 weeks prior to me, has 7ccs in her band and I only have 2. I hope you get restriction soon, because I know this is a difficult process until you do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
