Keeping surgery a secret

Recommended Posts

I literally haven't told a single person. And my surgery is scheduled for January 15th. And it's going to be in Tijuana, MX. So I really should tell someone as a "just in case." But I'm a super secretive person when it comes to my weight. I can talk about anything, ANYTHING with my best friend. But I could never tell her this. I know I need to tell someone. And I will. I just don't know who, or when. I plan on going to support groups and possibly telling people afterward once i see success. But I'm just worried about the judgment ahead of time.

Is that silly??

I was banded in Tijuana also. Are you using Dr. Kuri? I was banded with a woman who went by herself and did not even tell her husband. (how does that work?) It is safe, take it from someone who did it. They pick you up and take you back to the airport so there is not any way anything can happen to you.

I did not tell anyone in the beginning either. There was a part of me that wondered what I would do if it didn't work, and I didn't lose any weight. I was also worried about the people in my small town becoming the food police and watching me in resturants etc. After my weight loss started to become noticeable, I told people who asked and I am still just doing that. It feels the most comfortable to me. I hope I can help someone else down the road so I don't want to it to be a secret forever, but for now, it works the way it is.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
