What are the positives and negatives between the band sizea

Recommended Posts

I have just been banded (16 dec) with a 4ml band and notice that some of you have larger size bands. Unfortunately I didn't discuss this with my doctor at the time. I am a low Bmi'er of 34. I have lost 7kg to date which I am happy with but wondered down the track am I going to be at a disadvantage having the smaller band. I would be interested in people 's opinions. Thank you. Lisa

I think w/ the larger size bands because they hold more cc's they can be more precisely adjusted on fills. For example when honing in on the sweetspot - adjustments can be .2 cc's and on a 10 cc band that is a very small increment. You would need to do less than .1 cc to have a similar effect on a 4 cc band.

Hi:

On the negative side, my surgeon stopped using the smallest band because he had to reoperate on three people in one month because it ended up being too tight after surgery when they swelled. He used to use the smallest band for women and the larger bands for men. Now they use the larger bands for everyone.

On the positive side, I have the smallest band. I found it was easy to get to my sweet spot at first. Now, I've not had a fill for over six months and am in the green zone most of the time. If I could just get past the "grazing" habit I got recently I'd be great. As it is, I'm ten pounds higher than I should be. I may need a small fill when I lose those ten pounds, but I doubt it.

Best wishes to you.

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

Sue

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
