Hey, Ive only been banded for 2 1/2 weeks and Im worried about Hair loss. My hair has thinned out on top a lot and dont really want to lose any more. Can I hear from those NOT losing hair and what theyve done?

This is one of the main things that i want to do everything I can to prevent. My hair isnt that thick to begin with...everybody keep telling me Protein is the key. I am scheduled for January 14. Congrats on your weightloss so far and good luck with the future.

I'm four months out and I still have all my hair. Not losing any so far. Must be the Protein.< /p>

I'll be 2 weeks post-op tomorrrow and no hairloss. Then again what I was reading in the other thread sounds like a normal day for me, but as you can see by the pics I have a TON of hair, so brushing through it every day I lose a "wad" of hair everyday.

Your hair, is on a growth cycle. You'll have to figure out where you're out in your growth cycle and then have a plan of attack. If you know you got a haircut and color 6 weeks ago, then it's easy to figure out, etc...

But from my understanding it's wise to stay away from processing your hair during the losing phase and to work on keeping your scalp clean and stimulated.

I posted an article I found while researching this in the other thread, it's rather helpful but I agree with Lolly - Protein. Because if most were to research they would find out the recommended amount of Protein is just that a recommendation, that doesn't take in your personal situation or goals into account.

I'm 10months post op and I haven't experienced Hair loss. As a matter of fact, my hair is thicker and fuller now. My weight loss has been very slow (I intentionally increased the time between fills). My diet consist of most Protein (tuna and chicken). I eat very few carbs (can't tolerate them).

You probably won't notice any hair-loss until the 3rd or 4th month after banding.

I'm experiencing it now (3rd month) and it's not that bad but still, it isn't pleasant to see. I really don't think it's caused by a lack of Protein (not in my case anyway). I'm eating more red meat and fish now than I ever have. I think it could be the anesthesia or the body putting most of its energy into healing. It could also simply just be the stress.

My sister (who is not banded) has been losing tons of hair lately. I told her she should see a doctor and get some blood work done as you can actually see her scalp now because her hair has gotten really thin. She went to the doc and he did blood work and said she had a Vitamin D deficiency. She did some research on the internet and, sure enough, it will cause Hair loss.< /p>

Anyway, I was experiencing some hair loss (4 mos post op) and my hair was thinning. I would have a lot a hair in wrapped up in my fingers every time I ran my hands through my hair. And I was getting worried. But i get loads of Protein, so I'm having a hard time believing that's my problem. So i started taking 1000u Vitamin D3 (per my sister's recommendation) and within a week my hair loss has slowed down to almost no hair loss. i can comb my hair now and only have 2 or 3 strands in my comb. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try it too and see if it works for you. Let me know.

My hair is actually thicker and growing faster. I've kept my hair short for years now and find lately that I'm at the barber more now than in the past. My doc told me during the initial consult that as long as I maintained 80g-100g of Protein a day I wouldn't have any trouble with my hair.

So far so good.

10 weeks post op and no hair loss. Basically I take a Viactiv multi-Vitamin and 1 Viactiv Calcium chew per day. I have 1/2-1 cup of skim milk per day. I make sure to get at least 65-75 grams of Protein per day. My calories range from 900-1200 per day. My weight loss averages 2-3 pounds per week.

Don't know what is helping me keep my hair, but has to one of these.

I am 9 1/2 months post-op and no noticeable hair loss for me. In fact the last time I had my hair cut I asked my hair dresser if she noticed my hair getting thinner because of all the posts on this subject, and she said no. I have a normal amount of hair but it is fine by nature. (I hope I didn't jynx myself by posting this.)

In fact I think my hair has a nicer sheen to it and my skin is so much better since surgery which I attribute to all the Water I'm drinking now, the Vitamins, exercise and just basically taking better care of myself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
