brokenangel~ I had my lapband placed by Dr. Curry in Cincy on 6/8/09. My best friend had her band placed on 6/29/09 by Dr. Curry as well. We picked Dr. Curry b/c we were both self-pay and he offered the best care at the best price. Even if insurance had paid for the procedure, I still would have made the trip to Cincy. Dr. Curry and his staff are wonderful! I found it very reassuring that Dr. Curry and most of his staff have been banded.

Good luck w/ your journey!

Do you go to appointments and fills in columbus? did you have to drive to cincinnati alot of different times before the surgery? The drive isnt a problem for me and my husband is wonderful about all of this. We are going down next saturday for a seminar. My one concern is having to take alot of days off work BEFORE the actual surgery. If I decide on a doctor in columbus i can easily flex my schedule at work over a few hours.

thank you for your reply and good luck.

I might not be much help because I've chosen Dr. Curry and his office is like 7 minutes from my house, but when I spoke to my PCP who was against any type of gastric surgery, she told me that he was the ONLY doctor in the area (tri-state) that she would even recommend. She said that his staff, his policies and his record are better than anyone else. She is also pro-lap band over any other type of surgery.

I go for my consult on January 20th and I cannot wait. I've heard nothing but great things about him and I went to his seminar and felt like he related to his patients.

Regarding the trips, I might be wrong but I thought he had a satellite office in Columbus? You might want to check.

Good luck and hopefully we'll be 2010 bandsters together. :blushing:

I went to first appointment on 12/9 in Cincinnati. It was the seminar, consult, and psych. My next appointment was on 12/17 and it was the nutrition class, pre-op testing and I had to pay for the surgery at this appointment because I am self pay. I had to pay 100 for the psych consult and another 94 for my 1 week pre-op diet. I have my surgery on 1/11. I will have my first fill on 2/11 in cincinnati and then the rest of my appointments will be in columbus. They are very organized and easy to work with.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
