Help...I'm so scared that I've stretched my stomach...

Recommended Posts

I haven't been eating the best since Thanksgiving, I've fallen into my old habits of snacking throughout the day and evening. I don't sit down and eat a large amount at one time, but I am so scared that I've screwed this up. I'm thinking about going on a liquid diet for the next week, will this help? How will I know if I stretched my stomach?

My doctor told me it is not that easy to "stretch" your stomach. I also saw a post here where someones doctor told them you would have to gorge yourself on food to do this.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just get back on track eating healthy. Don't go to the extreme by doing a liquid diet again. You'll be messing with your metabolism. Go back to measuring and writing everything down and see how you do.

Thanks for your response. This is the first time I've felt this way and I'm just in tears right now. I have never gorged myself, never thrown up after I've eaten...it's just that I've been grazing all day, everyday since Thanksgiving. I don't want to ruin this chance I've been given to be healthy. Thanks again.

It might be helpful to you to eat meals that you know will keep you fuller longer, lots of Protein. I sometimes feel like you are feeling and just remind myself to be mindful of what and how I am eating. Its like that eating without truly paying attention to what or how or when I am eating. For me, I feel like I just need to focus more to get back on track. Just do what works best for you, either cut out the Snacks altogether or wean urself off of them or just try to trade out bad snacks to healthier 100cal or less snacks! I hope this helps!! I feel it even helps a little to just talk about it with someone.

Thanks Lizabeth. I had my lapband surgery 1/6/09 and this is my first time posting online. Yes, I feel so much better just talking to someone and admitting that I've fallen off the wagon. I have not followed the rules for the last four weeks. I have not eaten mindfully at all and I am not getting my Protein in. I have vowed this morning to follow my rules from this point forward. It was my decision to have this surgery to get healthy and live a better life and I am going to do it. I started @ 264 when I had my surgery (I was 303 at my highest) and have been down to 188, but am now at 197. I am going to start heading in the right direction again. I appreciate your support, advice and encouragement.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
