For those who are losing hair

Recommended Posts

hair is on a 3 mo growth cycle. nothing you can take will change it if it is falling out. you will have to wait it out.

whether or not anything will help after the 3 mos is iffy.

doesn't hurt to take Biotin, Vitamins and have enough Protein anyway.

I have new growth (more and more each day). So it will grow back, one of lifes ironic twists and turns with the band.

happens to some and not to others.

It happens around the 4th month because of the growth cycle mentioned above and it is due to the shock in our system, probably. We had surgery (I had 2 and it happened at around 4 months after both) and we are losing weight with a diet change. My friend has also lost hair (calls it her epidural patch) after both of her c sections. Her Hair loss always occurs when the babies are 3-4 months old. The only consolation is that it will eventually stop.

Hello all, just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth :) I too have had a ton of hairloss, but I had plenty to spare! Just when I started to get worried about how much I was loosing, I noticed new growth. Can you say porcupine? I look like I have all these little bristles sticking up out of my head! ( If anyone other than me notices, they dont say anything) Its so funny looking, but I refuse to cut my hair short. So I will live with it. I am 9 months out and the new growth is about an inch and a half long, so it looks like the original posters timing is the same as mine. New growth around eight months! Arent our bodies amazing!

I think everyones fear is hairloss. Now when you said you always got your Protein in and you still lost it that is concerning. I am one week out and not getting my Protein in each day since I just can't drink that much so I am really worried.

When you say it was falling out did you have like Patches people could see? Or was it thinner? Because my hair is pretty thin already.

I had very, very thick hair to begin with but when I say handfulls, I mean literally handfulls. When I shower there was a big wad of hair left on the drain, then when I comb my hair out there was hair all stuck in the comb. When I blow dry, hair all over the counter and all over the floor as well as a lot on the brush. I would estimate my loss around 50%. I have long hair down to just below my bra strap. Since the hairloss just stopped, I went and had my hair trimmed yesterday so now it looks a little healthier. It is most noticeable behind my bang line. Looks like I am balding, otherwise the loss really isn't visable to the naked eye, just mine.

I had three previous surgeries and never experienced Hair loss before. I believe it has something to do with the trama to a vital organ (stomach being banded) and nothing to do with lack of nutrients. Just my opinion though! Either way, I am sooooooo relieved that it has stopped and equally relieved that I am seeing some new growth.

The point of this thread is that I just wanted to let those of you who are experiencing hair loss know that is will stop eventually.

Mandze90,

Don't panic, I don't think any of us were able to get all of our Protein in the first week after surgery. It's kinda hard when all you can have is Clear Liquids. Once you can have Protein Drinks it gets easier.

Thank you sooo much for this posting. I JUST got out of the shower and had HUGE Hair loss for the first time since the surgery. I was banded on 9/25, and its been 3 mos nearly to the day!!! I am so relieved that I'm not the only one and so grateful to hear so many of you have had new growth and that this won't continue! Thanks again for the posting.

I started to lose hair around 3-4 months and I have very thin hair. I was worried every time I washed my hair and had to clean out the drain. It finally slowed down around 8 months. I think it is now back to normal.

I'm 10 months post surgery and I have not experienced Hair loss. I'm been taking Biotin since the surgery. In addition my diet consists primarily of Protein (tuna and chicken). I eat very few carbs (can't tolerate them). My hair is actually fuller and thicker now.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
