NJChick 3 Posted October 25, 2005 Aww thanks for the thread Betty and thanks everyone. I'm Glad its over.... phheeeeeeew. I just got home about 1/2 hr ago. All I can say is I am in sooo much pain. You's all weren't kidding when you said it hurt, especially the gas they put inside. Its like some one took a bat and hit me in the chest. I'm drinking a cocktail of crushed percocet and white grape juice in a medicine cup LOLOL. My surgery started at 5, doctor was running OT. They couldn't find a vein b/c I was so dehydrated from not drinking anything the night before. Got in my room about 9:30, beautiful room, with a pretty view of the new york skyline. Now the fun begins..... I had a sweet but stupid nurse. I had an IV bag that did not work from 10 pm to 5 am and in all that time no one checked. Me I was in and out of la la land. Then they say get up to pee, you have to do this (at 5 am) I told them how I was dizzy and was going to hurl. So we waited. I got in the bathroom, let niagra falls go, and ran back to bed almost killing myself b/c I could feel I was going to pass out or puke. So they gave me an injection for the puking feeling. I was feeling better by 10 am. The doctor came in and suggested I might want to stay another day. I was like NOT!!!! so he let me go home. I gotta say, I feel like I can drink with ease but I'm taking it slow for fear of hurting myself. The hospital made some really good broth, my DH ate it after I took a sip LOLOL. Thanks everyone for the ecards, and well wishes here. Your all the best, I really do mean it. I LOVE YOU ALL !!!!

HarleyNana 10 Posted October 26, 2005 Yuk, I had that naseau feeling too, they gave me a shot for that. The pain meds were causing the sick feeling. Take it easy and welcome again.
Bensmum1109 0 Posted October 26, 2005 Hey girl!!! Yes, the first few days SUCK. But it gets better every day-promise!!! A few tips that worked for me: Decaf green tea for the nausea sleep propped up almost to a sitting position for a few days (helps the gas pain) Have DH massage your shoulders (also helps the gas pain) Rent a bunch of good movies :-), and buy all the silly gossip mags you want Take as much pain medication as you are allowed to. If crushed pills are too bitter, they make liquid Vicodin, which also tastes kind of gross but you will care less. And please remember, you have all of us here for you to answer any question or concern you have. We have collectively run the gamut of every single possible symptom and issue you could imagine. I am raising my glass of outstanding Oregon Pinot Noir to you, girl!! Here's to a speedy recovery!!
NJChick 3 Posted October 26, 2005 Thanks again everyone !!! I'm feeling just aweful this morning..... gee, could it be on top of all this, Aunt Flo decided to pay me a visit. OY! Talk about freaking out at first LOL. Heather, I am crushing up the meds and taking 1 every 3 hours, it seems to be working out better that way. I feels like when you crush the meds, it works faster but it doesn't last as long. So instead of 2 every 4 hours I take 1 every 2 1/2 - 3 hours You know, I remember reading some where on these boards that somebody went shopping the next day?? All I have to say to that person is GOD BLESS YOU !!!!! ROFL
donali 57 Posted October 26, 2005 Whoo hoo!!! Congrats!! Heads up - after 7 days you will most likely be feeling more like yourself - DON'T OVER DO!!! Otherwise the next week will feel much like the first. Voice of experience... lol
PamRN 0 Posted October 27, 2005 Congrats and welcome to the losers team! I hope you're feeling better today. It was ME that went shopping the next day... twice. We went in the morning, and again after a rest, in the afternoon. I went for the walking and boy oh boy did we walk... I was tender, particularly on my port area, but ya know... I didn't have that first gas pain. Everyone is different though, and every procedure is individual. You may be in more or less pain. You may have had a different level of difficulty for the surgeon, or had a different nausea causing anesthesia. Those things along with your physical, and mental condition going into this surgery all play a factor in how you recover. Listen to YOU, do what makes you feel best, and you'll get the best possible results. Congratulations bandster!
