Old C-Section Incision, Weight Loss and Possible Infection???

Recommended Posts

OK, so I've had 4 c-sections over the past 15 years. My last one was October 2003. Got a really bad infection after my first one.

I had my lap-band surgery done in June of 2008. Since then, I've dropped 70lbs. Unfortunately, I am left with nothing but extra skin around my stomach area.

The issue I've been having for quite some time now is this......I seem to be getting this crazy foul odor under the fold of my stomach where the c-section incisions are - and now it is beginning to actually be painful. When I dry myself after a shower, it almost feels as if it's pulling. HURTS.

I'm not sure which route to go - my primary care doc? OB/GYN? Lap Band surgeon? Could I have an infection in the c-sec incision? just a regular old yeast infection?

HELP! Any advice would be so greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Andrea

Sounds like a yeast infection. I get those too. I have had several c-sections and had 4 stains of strep in the incision after the first daughter. I stood up a week after surgery and my belly split wide open. Since then I get really bad yeast infections over that same skin. I believe it is the skin sitting on top of it and the moisture that gets trapped in there. When I dry it off after a shower, it's hot and sensitive. I really hate it. I'm not sure which doc to take that up with, I'll be watching the thread to see what others say. Good luck!

Hi:

I was able to get partial coverage for my Tummy Tuck because of a recurring rash in the folds of my excess skin. I went to my lap band surgeon for a fill and showed him the rash. He took some photo's and I scheduled an appointment with a plastic surgeon. I had a rash again when I went to see the plastic surgeon. Between both of their pictures and some letters that they wrote I was able to get approval from BCBS for a panniculectomy. I had to come up with the cash for the upgrade to a tummy tuck which has a better cosmetic result. So glad I did it. As long as you can get it documented by a doctor it could help you in trying to get plastic surgery. Besides that, they'll give you some medicine to help with it.

Hope it feels better soon.

Sue

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
