I am freaking out!!! T-8 HELP!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!! I have been checking this website for a while and this is my first post.

I am having lapband surgery on 1/5/09. I am very scared. My Dr. has done 13 LB surgeries. I will be #14. He is one of the best surgeons in Atlanta and is starting to do LB.

What I am scared the most about is not the actual surgery, but I'm scared of my quality of life afterwards. Statistics show that 25% of the patients with a LB have to have it removed. I have watched several youtube LB diaries and the patients are not happy with them.

Can you give me hope? Can you tell me it will be ok and that I'm making the best decision?

I am having nightmares every night. I am scared but excited.

What has gotten you through post op?

Thanks for your help!!!

It has been a great experience for me. I would do it again in a minute. Life is still the same except now you have hope that once you lose the weight you will not regain it.

You have to change how you eat some mostly the first couple of months is hard but after that is is so normal. I can eat whatever I want most times with no problems. I am healthier now because I workout everyday.

If you have done your research and are willing to make some changes then I think this is for you. Let me know how it goes. We all had anxiety before surgery!!

hi danigirl

i have also had a good experience. the fact i'm not the fatest person in the room anymore has made this all worth it. i've gotten my life back.

it is important to know you must still work at this as the lapband is not "magical". i think you can see that on this site.

before i was banded i saw people that had the band for a long time that were still very overweight. they complained about the band. in looking back on their posts....they went to dairy queen, ate junk food and didnt exercise....but still wondered why they hadnt lost weight

then there was the other group that journaled their food, exercised and took responsibility when they fell off the wagon. they were and continue to be successful with the band.

anyway good luck in your journey. this was the best decision i ever made.

I agree with the others. this is the best thing i could have done for myself/my health. It is still hard work, but worth every minute of it. It does take changes to your diet and exercising more, but like I said-extremely worth it all. Good luck to you!!!!- Leslie

Thanks for your support.

Dear Bandsters:

I had surgery one week ago. I was in a lot of pain. It was no cakewalk. Today I am feeling a little better but I am very tired. I have had ups and downs. I’ve questioned myself about if this was a good decision. I have many questions that I tried to find answers in this lap band website but it’s been hard to find all the answers. They are spread out everywhere, and I feel so weak and tired. I would really appreciate if you could help me. Below I have some questions with numbers. I want to have the best nutrition possible. Can you please copy and paste it to your answer so you can answer them? You have no idea how much this will help (or probably you do since you have gone through this).

  • In one week I have lost 10 lbs. Is that average?

  • Which are the best Vitamins to take and what dosage?

  • What are the best supplements (calcium citrate or the other, etc)

  • Any lotions or tricks to prevent saggy skin?

  • When will I feel normal again?

  • Any good blogs or website that could be helpful now that I have the band?

  • Any other good tip you think I should know?

Thanks a lot for being so supportive J

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
