xrays of bank placement

Recommended Posts

How many of you have had xrays or Upper GIs to check your band placement? When and why were the xrays or upper GIs done? I'm going in for my post op this Wed and I forgot to ask if they'd be taking an xray or not. Should I be worried if my doctor doesn't do one?

I had those test done before the surgery but not after. I will ask tomorrow to see if they have to be retaken.

I've had xrays done to check my band placement right after surgery. My doctor also took some pictures when I was having some heartburn to make sure the band hadn't slipped or moved since surgery. Everthing checked out fine. It was cool seeing a picture of the band, tubing and fill port though.

My doctor performed upper GI immediately following surgery to ensure proper placement before leaving hospital.

Second scheduled upper GI was at one year post surgery. This was a few weeks ago.

Unforetunately, the second upper GI identified a slip. My band was unfilled with the hope of tummy correcting itself.

No real symptoms of slip. It took a long time for me to have some restriction - then as soon as I do - it's unfill due to slip.

I am worried. Next appointment is 12/31/09 to find out next steps.

I never had an upper GI until they wanted to check out some reflux issues I was having. I think most Dr.s don't unless they think there's a problem.

I am a year out and have never had one. My Doc says these newer bands are harder to slip..So far so good. I bought the extra insurance thingy, so if I needed anything done to my band like replaced, etc, it would be covered for 1 1/2 years 6 months left, if I have any problems I hope they come before the 6 month mark is up.

I had an x-ray done a few hours after surgery to make sure the placement of the band was good before I was allowed to drink any liquids. Until they checked the x-ray, I was only allowed ice chips.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
