High Protein/Low Carb - Day before Surgery Diet

Recommended Posts

I am very nervous about Monday (not the surgery, but the diet I have been on). I have been on a low carb/high Protein diet for 10 days. Tomorrow I will be drinking Clear liquids only before my surgery. I feel like I have not lost any weight on my presurgery diet! Will they not band me if I have not lost a lot of weight? What do most people drink the day before surgery? Is Isopure allowed.

ACK!!!!!

you'll be fine, as long as you've been adhearing. Sometimes it's not about losing weight, it's more about cleaning your liver of fat and toxins. The healthy food does this and your liver shrinks making it easier for the surgeons to work around it.

Thank you for the response! How do you feel? I notice you just had surgery a week ago.

I feel great. Day of surgery (Friday) was rough but I don't remember it (yay good drugs lol) I rested all weekend, was up and getting around on Sunday and was back to normal come Monday.

  • My tips are have your pain meds ahead of time.
  • Gas-x strips (use sparingly and only when the gas pressure is unbearable because the sooner it gets out the sooner you'll feel better - gas-x keeps it in)
  • Heating pad (if you have two even better)
  • Stay upright as much as possible (I slept upright for 3 days in a recliner)
  • Walk as much as possible.
  • Clear liquids first 48, even after the surgery even though you won't feel like much of anything, it's important to rehydrate.
  • Follow your doctor's orders

I couldn't tell you how great I feel, minus the gas everything is great I had a rapid recovery and am healing nicely :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
