StephanieF 1 Posted December 27, 2009 Again, please, no judging or lecturing here. I'm just asking an honest question. Who is doing this the tight band way? and if you are doing it that way, you know who you are. Not everyone can deal with the gym and calorie counting. For some of us the quasi-starvation method is what works best. Of course there are obvious side effects and issues with a tight band, but I would love to chat with others who got to their goal like me, with a tight band. Humming Bird 275 Posted December 27, 2009 mine is pretty tight. It seems to be working for me. The scale numbers keep dropping. I am not to goal yet, but hope to be there at my 1 year mark.
LarraineM 6 Posted December 27, 2009 Your question is not clear, maybe more would respond if you made it clear............are you saying you are going to do the weight loss and maintain it without exercise? Not a good plan
StephanieF 1 Posted December 27, 2009 It was/is the ultimate sacrifice. I basically gave up the enjoyment of food, ate what I could get down, and have altered my life in many ways from what I eat, to when I eat it, to how I have to sleep at night. As time has gone on my skin has actually pretty much caught up with the weight loss. Granted, if I meet a rich man one day and he's willing to pay for the lower body lift and new boobs, I'm in! It basically took all the will power out of the equation. It controls me, I respect it, I know what it will allow and what it won't. Granted it has given me a host of other problems involving Constipation, but I am truly hopeful that I will find the right combo of stuff to get myself back on track. It's not that I can't eat, just what I eat isn't very bulky. Mind you, I rarely PB. I'm not saying this is the healthiest way, but it's what worked for me, and despite aforesaid mentioned health issues, I wouldn't change a thing.
StephanieF 1 Posted December 27, 2009 Larraine, I think the question was pretty clear. And without knowing my health history, please do not assume exercise is the best option for me.
Northern Mist 2 Posted December 27, 2009 My goal is to be healthy. IMHO starving oneself and not exercising can't be what the lap-band was made for - I would expect my body to rebel at this treatment. My doc and surgeon said I have to exercise, in some way, in order to get things moving along...if you know what I mean. I'm not being critical of you but sometimes things are obvious to people outside of the situation. Then again I'm not even banded yet and looking through rose colored glasses at this point. I hope I control the band and it doesn't end up controlling me. Thanks for the heads up at that possibility. I hope all gets easier for you and your band
StephanieF 1 Posted December 27, 2009 I choose to let it control me. If I was in control of everything I'm guessing I would not have been 265 lbs. I am a healthy person..moreover, I really cannot believe I am sitting here defending myself. This is a tool, you use it, obviously in conjunction with your doctor's knowledge since he adjusts it, in different ways and what works for you. I've lost 115 lbs, and other than obvious problems that a lot of people have due to reduced food intake, I am a very healthy person. I'm going to stop responding to these posts. I know I am not the only person who went this route, and it is really those people I was interested in connecting with. For the rest, honestly, this is my reality, and I'm really not all that interested in your opinion on it. AGAIN, LOOKING TO CONNECT WITH PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Sorry to be so abrasive, but seriously...
TwilightLover83 0 Posted December 27, 2009 i say whatever works for one might not work for another. Too each his/her own. Not everyone has to take the same route to get to their destination.
sweetbean70 2 Posted December 27, 2009 I, too, am considering a tighter band to help w/ my weightloss. I'm at 4cc in a 10cc band. My dr is VERY conservative when it comes to fills (surgery was 6/8/09- lost 70lbs so far)). I'm going 1/8/10 for my 5th fill. I'm hoping to add at least 1cc to my band at that time. Portion Control and will power have always been my downfalls... not sweets. I'm not a real lover of intense exercise either. I didn't get my band to count calories/carbs, weigh or measure my food, or spend countless hours exercising. I'm eating reasonably and trying to be more active in general. It is working for me. Good luck w/ your journey!

Humming Bird 275 Posted December 27, 2009 I like my band tight. I don't waste time or obcess about every gram of everything I put in my mouth. If I wanted to do that I would have skipped getting the band. I also do not live on junk food or icecream. I try to keep my Protein up, but do not obcess about every gram. I take my Vitamins daily. I also have not turned into a fitness expert, as some seem to think they are. My band is not so tight that I throw up, but it has been very tight since September. StephanieF 1 Posted December 27, 2009 Finally, some real people! Amen. I know I didn't get banded to struggle, I did that my whole life. And if ever I feel like something's not right I email my doc and he says come in and get an unfill. But then I learned if I wait a day and just chill out everything calms down. Right or not, let's face it...if you're not eating many calories, you don't have many to burn at the gym. I did try it, but I was in calorie deficit and feeling so weak. We are a society that overeats. You can go to countries all over the world where not eating a lot is the norm.
kee123 0 Posted December 28, 2009 I like you StefanieF. This is what I am looking to hear. Real talk from a Real person. I totally agree with your outlook and approach. Everyone is so focused on being judgemental and saying what sounds right in everyones elses eyes. I am at the point whereas I will do whatever it takes to get the weight OFF. I am not looking to lose a pound or two every month. I want it off as fast as possible. I hate the gym and everything that goes along with it. If I could lose weight with the least amount of exercise, count me in. If exercise was the answer then why are so many of use struggling with or weight and going to the extreme in regards to surgery. So with that off my chest all I have to say for all of you judgemental individuals out there is to each its own.
