Banded 12/16/09

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was banded on 12/16/09 and have been doing great. Still a little tender around the port, but as I have transitioned out of the liquid diet and have started into blended foods, I am feeling great. I am down 14 pounds since the surgery and 49 pounds since I started the process in July.

Here is my question for anyone who would wish to weigh in... what has been the loss experience for those that have started to eat "regular food" again. I know I can't expect to continue losing more than a pound a day (like I have since the surgery), but I'm wondering what a typical pace is. If there is such a thing.

Micon, you are kicking ass!! Keep up the good work. To answer your question, everybody is different. You're correct that the liquid phase is quick weight loss. Larger people tend to lose more quickly that smaller folks. My doc told me that a good "average" is 1 lb every 2 weeks, once I got into real food. You may be a little slower, or you may leave that number in the dust. Right now you're doing great!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
