Freakin' Holidays

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Oct. 20th, 2009. I have lost 64lbs since then. I have been sticking to my diet very well until these past two weeks. People have been dumping Cookies and stuff. Office holiday parties have been going rampant, and I know I've probably eaten a bit much, but I am doing better these last couple of days. I've decided to give away the goodies or even throw them away.....I just try to do it discreetly...has anyone had any problems this past week with the holidays...If so how have you been getting thru it. :)

I just barked at the first couple of people, "get away from me, I'm on a diet" and the rest got the hint.

I don't have much of a problem with will power unless the Cookies and cakes are put right in my face and they were doing that.

I have been doing so well untill this last week. There has been so much food in my office. Cookies, cakes, dips you name it it is here. I haven't lost this week at all but i haven't gain either so i guess one week out of the year is ok. Back on track starting Saturday. I don't feel bad because i have lost 6 lbs since dec 1 and last year i would have gained 10.

I had FOUR parties in EIGHT days. I was good, don't get me wrong. I didn't eat plates full of food. But I got on the scale on Sunday, after the last party, and I was up 9 pounds. Now, I KNOW I didn't eat 32,000 extra calories in 8 days so the culprit had to be sodium for the most part. I didn't prepare all that food, and I'm sure that others (including restaurants) use more sodium than I do. So for me, I've lost 7.5 of the 9 as of this morning just from eating at home, controlling the sodium and drinking extra Water.

Getting the temptations out of the way is crucial. I made some Cookies two nights ago and they didn't all fit in the cookie jars so there was a tupperware container with the remainder sitting on the kitchen counter. Last night, I was busy and without thinking, opened that container and had a cookie in my hand and a bite in my mouth before I really was 100% aware of what I was doing. Mindless eating. So, tell them thank you but no thank you, or toss them when nobody is looking.

I totally chuck thing in the trash. My students' mothers make Cookies and things. I say thank you, wrap them in a napkin, and then chuck them as soon as I get free!

If they ask I tell them they were great!

My neighbor always makes us a big plate of the most delicious Cookies you ever ate each year for Christmas. She didn't this year and didn't say anything about it but I know it is because she is aware of what I have been going through and is trying to help me and that was really great. I just felt bad for my husband because he looked forward to getting them. I went ahead and made some plates of cookies and took them out to some friends. I left him a small container on the kitchen counter and had one for myself. Not the end of the world and he still got some cookies.

Yeah, the holidays are a killer. I've gained 4 pounds since Thanksgiving. UGH...... I have to say, the sodium seems to be a part of it. I haven't gotten up in the morning with swollen fingers in MANY months. Have several times since Thanksgiving. Alcohol seems to be my pit fall. Spiced rum, and extra wine will get you every time. I've been good about limiting the Christmas Cookies. But stuff like potatoes and gravy???? Hard to resist. Slacked off on the exercise as well. I know where I'll be next week!!! LOL

Yeah thats what I have been doing. The mindless eating or boredome eating I need to be better at. I need to go for a walk or do some exercise when I feel like eating something and I know I'm not hungry. This is a challenge to change all your bad eating habits over night LOL.... but thanks for the positive comments

I am doing badly over the holidays. I will get back on track after the new years. I will be back to work with no more parties and no more giant family meals. I still can't eat a lot, but I can eat many times a day. I am still working out though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
