What else there to drink on full liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery Monday, December 21st and stayed overnight.

I am to be on a clear liquid diet.< /p>

Is there something else besides broth, Water, tea, gatorade, apple juice that I can have?

Seems I'm not getting enough nutrients starving this way!

Oh, and the pain is something else! I need my husband to help me out of bed.

I have heartburn (never have had this before in my life) & Pepcid seems to help.

The doc did have to scrap away a lot of scar tissue from my gall bladder surgery I had a couple of years ago. He stated the scarring was pushing against my pancreas. That pain is gone now..woohoo.

Anyways, I cannot get the doctor to call me back because I do not know how long I am supposed to be on a clear liquid diet.

The booklet he gave me is for those getting the dual band surgery.

My plan had me off Clear liquids and onto all liquids the day after I got home. I was on total liquids for one week. This was the week for Protein shakes and Soup (without chunks).

Do you have a nutritionist? Did your Nutritionist give you a plan or guidelines? Every Doctor has a different approach. If you can't rach the DR. can you reach the NUT?

It would have been hard to be total Clear Liquids for a week, but I have read some doctors recommend that approach.

There are other clear juices, Cranberry, and blends, Juicy juice too. You can strain chicken noodle Soup or Beef Vegetable soup.

Before you move to full liquids, make sure that your DR is ok with it. Also, make sure you are really hungry and not HEAD hungry.

Walking, a lot of walking, will help the pain and the gas go away.

You have to get up, get busy, and stop thinking about food. Time to change your life is NOW!!!

Good Luck...

TJ

I too was on all clears for 1 week (just ended today WOOHOO!) and felt the SAME way! There are Isopur and other Protein Drinks that are CLEAR. I got them from GNC. They were kinda gross, but tolerable. There are also Protein Shots (not literally a needle shot) like a test tube. They are clear. I cooked veggies in my broth then took them out for more flavor. You can have Jell-o and popsicles or italian ices also. Towards the end of the week I was STARVING and had my husband stop and get a bunch of egg drop Soup from a Chinese place and blended the soup in the blender (to pulverize the egg strands). It's much thicker than just broth and helped alot!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
