Hey all My surgery went great. Surgery at 7:30am in recovery by 8am. Awake drinking sitting up and walking around 10am or so. And released around noon.

Pain hasn't been bad at all. My gas pains weren't bad either. They stayed around center chest and i had a huge release of the gas via a gag/cough. Since then the pressure has been gone. I've been getting up and walking and sleeping alot.

No problems getting in and out of bed or my recliner. Get dressed easy. So all I'm all it's been perfect. No Complaints.

only my abs feel like they had a workout and i'm just very thirsty all the time.

I'd do this again in a heartbeat. Such a breeze for me.

I hope all others are doing well also. I can't wait for some mashed potatos. lol

Wow, I can't believe you went home the same day and just a few hours after your surgery. I was overnight and thank god for that because it was major surgery to your stomach area. I'm at day 6 after surgery and feeling great. More power to you if you were able to do all of that stuff within one day. Were you totally knocked out for it or did you just have locals? Congrats.

awesome! congrats! I hope for the same on January 8. Some insurances don't pay for overnights. Mine didn't approve it because they feel it is an outpatient procedure.

Glad it went so well!!!

Forget the potatoes though.... You should limit them and get into Protein and veggies. And Walk, Walk, Walk. Gotta change your life, the band is only a tool.

Good luck to you though, you are on the right road....

I also was banded yesterday, December 22, 2009, by Dr. Oh at St. Francis Hospital, in Federal Way, WA. I just got home about two hours ago. I'm doing fine considering I just had surgery, but it feels like I've just been in a boxing match and lost. I've has two popsicles, some liquid percocet, and Water. I'm too pumped up to lay down so decided to post for the first time on this forum. Up to this time I've been a reader.

I lost my 10% of my body weight like my doctor wanted me to do so was happy with that. I started at 296 and ended up weighing 264 the morning of surgery. One thing that made me very angry and upset is my surgeon, Dr. Oh, gave me a sad time about taking pain meds for my back. I have a pain management doctor prescribe these for me. He also wouldn't agree to let me have a pain pill the morning of surgery. I did have one when I awoke anyways since my surgery was scheduled later in the day. My sciatica would have gone off the charts if I waited over 12 hours to take one.

I can't wait until I'm six weeks out so I can have real food. Dr. Oh wants his patients to have liquids for four weeks and then mushies for two weeks. The pre op fasting for two weeks was bad enough. Will I make it for four more? It will be very hard for me. I will do exactly as he asks because I want to lose my weight so bad. I can't imagine not ever having a glass of milk or some cheddar cheese. There is nothing more I want than to take less pain meds. I have scar tissue and nerve damage so won't be able to get rid of it all.

I better stop my rambling and maybe consider getting some sleep since I only got about three hours in the hospital.

Take Care -- Marty

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
