I finally joined Curves and I LOVE it. So far I've gone twice and can't wait to go back tomorrow. I'm shooting for Mon/Wed/Fri at Curves and eventually working in walking on my off days. :)

I've lost all my weight so far without working out.. I can't wait to see how my clothes feel once I start toning up and losing inches!

They're franchisee businesses, a local 32 year old girl owns 6 of them all within 100 miles of each other, she's rolling in the dough. A lady had a heart attack and died right in the gym about a month ago.

I think they fill a void for those of us who do not like the meat market type gyms.

They are owned by a man who activly works against women's reproductive rights. It's political. I can't support companies who activly work against women or our communities.

Hi Carrie,

Not to rain on your parade here, but please, please be careful when you work out at Curves. I torked my back pretty good there, and 2 surgeries later I am still having back problems. It is very important to make sure that you are using proper form on the machines, which is hard to do when you're rushing from station to station.

My physical therapist said that I wasn't her first Curves client, so just take your time and make sure you follow the instructions to the letter (especially regarding feet placement - you cross your feet at the ankles on some machines and hang them straight down on others).

Just be careful, and I'm sure you'll be fine. I tend to work out too hard when I finally get my butt in the gym, so it was my fault I was injured...

For those of us who are extremely self conscious or who have limited mobility or stamina. I have yet to find a comparable place to help us gain the confidence to continue going. It is a very non-threatening environment. No 'hard-bodies' staring you down. No men to be embarrassed in front of. No bouncing or dances that you may not yet be coordinated enough for. Just simple range of motion movement, repitition that doesn't last too long or leave you sore. I think it is a ray of hope for those of us who are hesitant to try or unable to do some of the other things that are available. I go there for me, because it is the one place I feel comfortable and WILL go on a continual basis.

I must appologise for my previous post. I know that it fill the needs for so many. I understand this. I'm just really pissy and tired, and having a head ache. This is what I've spent all day doing and it's addled my brain and my good senses.

Find the equation of the line tangent to the graph of f(x)=2x^3-5x^2+3x-5 @ x=1

f(1)=2-5+3-5 so the point (1,-5)

take the first derivative of f(x) so f`(x)=6x^2-10x+3

so the slope @ x=1 i -1

Equation of the tangent line is y-(-5)=-1(x-1)

y=-4-x

I know, simple stuff, but I stuggle with it.

Again, I appologise for making disparaging remarks about Curves. I lost my bifocals, so I have to use drugstore reading glasses over my eye glasses; there were 2 bugs in my drink and I think thre might have been more and I've been working on calculus for 5 hours today and will probably spend another 3 or 4 hours yet more tonight.

MsButterKup, I really and honestly think it is mah-vo-lous that you have found some place to work out that YOU feel comfortable working out at. I know this is totally important for everyone. I frequently forget that most people are not like me and actually do give a rat's ass what other people think of them.

You remind me of myself, when I believe strongly about something I have no problem saying it. I have to respect you for that. :)

From the stand point of someone who used to work at curves part time - it does fill a need for people who do not want to be part of the meat market gym world.

As mentioned - you can hurt yourself if you do not have an attentive worker who will make sure that you are using the equipment properly.

As far as the owner - I know he is Christian because all of the Curves literature would have bible verses, etc.

I really don't care what he is. I know he started Curves because he wanted to offer a place to women where they could go work out quickly and efficiently because he knew so many women had family, work and so many duties to work into their day. He knew this because his mother died from some obestity related disease and he wanted to start Curves to help people like his mother.

(This is from what I can remember reading the story in his book)

I belive that any movement is progress. I know that Curves works with some very functional basics and they are sound as far as strength training goes.

Good for you and I hope you have much success with your exercise efforts.

Nancy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
