I had my LAP-BAND® installed on Oct. 20th and I just had my first fill Thursday (Dec. 17th), it was delayed due to scheduling problems. I didn't have any restriction until the fill. I have lost 18 lbs from the first appointment.

In my mind, I was just always hungry. I thought that when I had my LAP-BAND® surgery that I would eat less and I would no longer be physically hungry then I would be satisfied. But I have found, that after I had my first fill, I eat the super small portion and I am physically full, then I am mad because I was enjoying the food and I want to keep eating for the pleasure of eating. I had no idea that I had this relationship with food. I guess this is going to be harder than I thought, but the good news is with just 3.5 cc's in a 10 cc band, I can barely eat 1/2 cup of food and I stay physically full for several hours. Now I just have to get over the habit of eating.

That is what is scaring me. I know have that relationship with food. I don't eat just to get full. I eat because food is delicious and I can't get enough of it.

Not only do I love to eat, but I love to cook. Thank god my roommate is a human dumpster and will eat anything I don't finish. Needless to say, he doesn't gain a pound doing it.

I'm a meat and potatoes guy and have cut down my portions in preparation for banding. So far, so good.

Leigha, I don't know if you have one yet, but it may be a very good idea if you find a counselor and have someone professional to talk to about this. It is very important to conquer the head hunger. Even as far along as I am, I still occasionally fight the head hunger. It is one of the reasons I got where I got. Also, I take every opportunity to go to my support group. It is so very helpful in this regard. You may want to find one in your area and start attending. It is great to share ideas and talk to people who are in your same boat.

I think this is something that I am fearful of as well. I have my surgery this Thursday and I almost feel like I will be a major failure because I'll find a way to 'cheat' somehow. I do have a therapist that I see weekly which I decided to start seeing the same week I decided to undergo lap band surgery back in September. How well did you do with your pre-op liquid diet? I keep cheating, the Protein Shakes just taste like crap. I find more often days than not I will skip a Protein Shake only to over-eat for dinner time (the one time I AM allowed non-liquids).

DON'T CHEAT!!! I didn't do so great on my pre-liquid diet where I was supposed to lose 15 lbs in 2 months, so when I went in to see surgeon on Dec. 11th he threatened to NOT do my surgery! I freaked out. I needed to lose 15 lbs on my liquid diet in less than 2 weeks. I had to wait until the day before my surgery was scheduled whether it was a go or no. That was today and I was really really stressed for 2weeks. I got the call this afternoon that it was a go. But it's not worth your surgeon denying you your surgery. Also, I have heard of some surgeons cutting you open then not banding you because it's obvious you didn't lose weight and your liver is still fatty. Please be careful and don't sabatoge yourself.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
