Banded 11/30/09 - Not full

Recommended Posts

OK so I am already on solids and I dont feel full. I have the hiccups a lot but since I have been able to eat solids I have gained 4 lbs; which of course is making think something is wrong? Is this normal? I am worried something is wrong with the band. Any ideas?

The reason why you had restriction toward the beginning of your surgery is not because you had adequate Fluid in your band. It is because of swelling from the IV fluids, the surgery itself and your initial post-op diet. Now that your body is winding down and losing weight, everything is, for lack of a better term, looser.

So yes, completely normal. Unless you're experiencing persistent pain I would also bet nothing is wrong. You just need your first fill.

Also, as a preemptive strike I want to let you know that your first fill will be much like your current situation. It will give you a week or two of restriction and then you will find yourself starving and finding it more difficult to make healthy choices. Just hang in there, do your best and look forward to your next fill.

When you hiccup its a sign that you are full. Pay attention to the signs. I get one single hiccup that seems to come from the pit of my stomach that tells me "You are full" and need to stop eating or drinking.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
