My journey so far!

Recommended Posts

I am really new to this but I know that I need to change my life in certain ways so getting online and getting apart of support groups will help. I just recently had realize band done (12/12/09). So far I am sore, tired and I have a real bad cough which I don’t think its normal ( I have to pick up an antibiotic tomorrow). But I don’t feel as hungry and I am so excited to see my progress and the progress of the other people who decided to take the step. Is it normal to be itchy and I am still so sore?

New day

Things are getting a little better, I am still really sick. My stomach hurts really bad and I coughing a lot but I think its because of the medication I am on from my cold. I am just a little upset that I am not recovering as quick as I wanted. My stomach is in knots because of the medication and since I am on liquids its not making things better I was so very temped to eat pretzels so my tummy could feel better but I didn't get surgery to cheat. So instead I hold my pillow when I cough and make sure I am near a bathroom. I do hope it gets better than that. The plus side of this is I had surgery 5 days ago and I stepped on a scale and I was 218 with jeans and sneakers on and I was 225 before surgery. I guess anyone would loose weight on a liquid diet. UGH sometimes I am so lost with this. I know its normal to have mixed feelings with this!! I just want to get better. Maybe things will be better when I get my first fill.

TODAY!!

I cheated to day :smile2: I am really upset I caved! I have been sick and really hungry and I caved in and had 9 pretzels and I felt so bad. Is this going to wreck my band? Its been a week!

First let me say, Congratulations and I am sorry that you are sick. Are you on Clear Liquids only or are you able to take your Protein suppliments also?

When you say your itchy is it by your incisions or is it all over? If it's by your incisions it's more then likely because they are healing. If it's all over, you should make sure that you aren't having an allergic reaction to something. Do you have a noticable rash or anything going along with that itch? Call your doctor if that's the case.

As for your cheating. The lapband is a tool. It's not a miracle worker. That would be totally awesome if the lapband stopped all of our cravings and all of our cheats. You are STILL human and you will still make mistakes once and awhile. You haven't screwed up. It takes awhile for you to know the difference between 'head hunger' and true hunger. So instead of beating yourself up about 9 pretzels (which I am suprised you were able to get down anyway. You must have chewed really well which is a GREAT tool to have in the upcoming months), learn from what just happened and next time ask yourself is this really what I want to do? The rule, wait 10 minutes, distract yourself, and then if the temptation is still there, instead of reaching for a pretzel reach for some chicken broth or a fat free ice pop. I live on Fat Free ice pops. They really help with my cravings. Try to stick to the plan that the doctor gave to you. Don't move onto solids to quickly. If you are really having a hard time, call and ask your doctor if you can start taking your Protein supplements.

Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon. Have a happy holiday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
