Hi all - I am new to the forum. I had a BMI nof 31 and had the surgery 3 days ago (12/16). Do they put any "fill" into the band during the surgery? If not, then does that mean that I won't start to lose weight until my first fill?

Some doctors put a fill in during surgery. Mine did not and I lost 29 lbs before my first fill. Everyone is different. If you follow your plan you may lose weight. Don't be discouraged if you don't though because it's all about the healing process right now. Before you know it the weight will start falling off.

Congratulations to you and Happy Holidays.

I had my band done on Nov. 19 and have no fill and no restriction. It's all willpower at this point. And yes, it is very possible to lose before the first fill. I have lost 15 pounds since my surgery.

Good luck on your new adventure as a Banster! :smile2:

I lost weight before my first fill. I have had four fills and still don't have restriction. BUT, I have lost 62 pounds by sheer will power so far. I think I am close to my sweet spot but not quite yet. To answer your question, my doctor did not put in any Fluid att ime of surgery.

It depends on the doctor...some do and some don't.

Whether or not you lose weight is entirely up to you...just as it will be after you get the band. If you at least make the attempt to control your intake, you'll most likely lose weight. How much depends on how much control you have.

I didn't worry about trying to eat 1 cup of food prior to my first fill. I knew I would want to eat an hour after dinner and I'd end up binging. So I just tried to eat like a normal person would. I don't usually eat sweets or junk food, but I did avoid them completely just to start a better habit.

I'm still not at restriction after 2 fills (6 ccs maybe) but I'm trying to do the whole 1 cup thing right now just to get into the habit since I'm probably close.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
