1st fill and weight loss

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks post op as of Thursday and went to the doctor yesterday and I have lost 34 pounds. I lost 25 pounds on the 2 week preop diet and the other 9 pounds since surgery. I was so thrilled to loose 34 pounds in 4 weeks. He gave me a 2 cc fill also yesterday and now I am on liquids for 2 days again.

My post op diet was different from many I have read here. I was on liquids for 2 days, soft foods for 2 days and then on to a regular diet on the 5th day. I was getting really hungry so I guess I needed the fill.

Just wanted to share my weight loss and that I have done well since the surgery.

Wow thats such FAST weight loss! Congrats! I have lost as well but most of it was lost before the surgery. I was on and off the liquid diet 3 times because my surgery date kept changing and now I have lost 9 post op. I am on the other hand, dissapointed because I am now 3 weeks post op and figured I would have lost more than 9 pounds. My post op diet was strict too....5 days Clear Liquids, 7 days full liquids, 7 days mushies and 7 days soft foods, so I am not even in the soft food part! I am thankfull for my loss and get my first fill right after Christmas, hope that helps speed things up!

You are both doing great! Just remember that the pre-op diet depletes the carbohydrate stores in your body almost completely. Carbohydrate stores are stored w/a lot of Water. So, a lot of what you lost in the pre-op diet is Water weight (maybe 10 pounds). This is why people on Atkins and low carb diets can 'gain' back so quickly... because as soon as they eat some carbs again, their body replenishes the carb stores in their body which means they will start holding onto some water weight as well. In any case, this is what causes an inevitable yoyo effect w/low carb diets. And, the reason why you can't keep losing at the super fast initial rate.

Anyway, just don't let it get you down. Remember 1-2 pounds per week is a healthy rate of weightloss and definitely not considered 'slow' although it may seem that way just because we'd all like to lose weight faster. When I was doing Weight Watchers as best I could, I would lose 0.0 - 0.5 most weeks. Now that is slooooooowwwww!!!

So, please feel good about your big losses so far! Congratulations!!!

yes I have to do liquids for 2 days and then soft for 2 days and then back to my regular diet. This 2 days of liquids is tough.

Thank you Adagray for that information about the effect of low carb diets and Fluid loss. I kept thinking when I was on the pre op diet there must be a fluid tablet of some sort in Optifast because I was always looking for a bathroom.Anyway I had my Op on the 16th Dec and I notice yours was the next day so hope you are going OK at the moment.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
