Too tight

Recommended Posts

I had a fill on wednesday. It was my 5th or 6th fill, i can't remember now. I had lost 8 lbs in 4 weeks. so i was progessing. He put in 1.2 ccs He always has me on liquids for about 24 hours after a fill but even after that i was not able to handle solids. One bite of scrambled egg got stuck big time and I was in a lot of pain for a few hours before it finally seemed to go down (though i thought it was coming up, it didn't). then i spent the rest of the day with the most horrible heart burn i have ever had. and I was starving. by thursday night even liquids were hard to take. They got me in today and he took out .6cc. Oh my goodness what a difference! I feel totally normal again.

He said it's best not to let that sort of thing wait because your stomach can get even more irritated and swollen and then they have to take out even more Fluid. So word to the wise a little unfill right away is better than a big unfill down the road.

I went to similarly the same thing this week. I tried to hang on but I kept throwing everything up. When I called my surgeon finally yesterday morning she told me to come in NOW. So, I went in and they took out .4 cc's. Everything is beautiful now. What a difference. I am on liquids for a couple of days to allow the swelling to go down and then back to mushies and then solids.

Wow, Greytz, you didn't post that you were having probs, maybe because you took action so quickly? I am glad you got taken care of and are good. I had to have an unfill this week, too, but they took too much and now I can eat ANYTHING and can't get an appointment for 4 weeks because of the holidays and then my plastic surgery!!!!

Hi Mimilou, I knew I needed to do something asap so when I called they got me in that morning which was great. It us blessed relief to get that slight unfill. Things are fine now but on liquids until tomorrow just to be on the safe side. I am so sorry you have to wait so long to get a top off. They told me I have to wait two weeks just to be sure the swelling has gone down and we don't get a false reading on how I am feeling. Hope you can get through the holidays ok. What a rotten time to be too loose! You are ready for PS so you will be fine. Do you have a date yet? I am just curious as to what you decided to do as far as which parts of your body you are planning to have done if you don't mind telling it. I am now thinking about my arms. I had decided to only have the Lifstyle Lift for my face but now I am thinking my arms will need it.

I decided not to get implants so on Jan 4, 10 I will have my arms done and my boobs put back up north a ways!!!! The closer it gets the more nervous I get.

Glad your unfill was just right.

Thank you so much for posting this. I went for my 1st Year Post-Op checkup on the 28th and lied to the PA. She asked if I'm feeling restriction and I am. But when she asked about heartburn, she asked if I have it maybe once a week. I lied and said, "Yeah, about once a week." The truth is that I have it almost every time I eat, ever since I got my most recent fill, back in late November. I have 7ccs out of 9ccs and that recent fill was form 6cc to 7cc rather than a simply 6.5cc fill I had been expecting. I lied to the PA because she's HORRIBLE at fills and, although I'm numb and can't feel it, I have to deal with the bruising later that day and it lasts for several days. She misses the port somehow, nearly every time, and then has to wiggle the needle around and find it. Makes me cringe just thinking about it!

That said, I'm glad I read your post. Because I'm having the worst heartburn and I hate that it feels like I've got a volcano going on in my chest. All I've eaten today was a bite of scrambled egg, a nibble of bacon, a bite of grits, and some lemonade. Yeah, that's some acidic food right there, coupled with the bite of spaghetti I tried to eat twenty minutes ago. But I'm SO TIRED of feeling this burning sensation. I'll call them first thing on Monday. I regret not being honest this past Monday.

can you specifically request not to be seen by the PA? does your surgeon do fills? I refuse to see the PA at my surgeons office, i have friends who've seen her and she is just not good all around so i understand what you're saying.

I came to the conclusion and being thin was not worth the constant pain that i had for that day and a half. I hope they can get you in right away and get you feeling better!

Yeah, I agree. Thanks for your well wishes with getting an appointment. Leave it to me to recognize the necessity over a holiday, lol.

I have actually requested my surgeon before and the PA still did the fill. It angered me. No offense to the PA, but I'm paying to see the surgeon. My surgeon only sees lap band patients on Wednesdays, whereas the PA sees us on Mondays. I specifically scheduled a fill for a Wednesday, requested my surgeon, and the PA was who filled me. Frustrating! I mean, she's really nice and caring, but she's horrendous with needles!

I had my third fill done on a Friday and should have stayed to drink they whole glass of Water but left thinking everything was ok. However as the evening progressed I was unable to drink anything as it kept coming back up and got a bad case of the hiccups. I was unable to sleep at night and the next day was still unable to drink anything and was constantly throwing up. Later in the evening called the emergency line of Top surgeons and theny sugested I go into the ER room and geet some of the fill removed. I did this and had 4cc removed and it really made a difference. I willl make an appt this week to get another fill as it will have been about a month so figure the swelling will have gone down.

doodleallday, have you actually told your surgeon about your concerns with the PA? Sometimes you have to actually say the words "i don't want the PA to do my fill, i would rather you do it" and find out what you need to do to make that happen. If there is one thing this whole journey has taught me is that you have to be the "squeaky wheel". And you have to say exactly what you mean.

Hi everyone! Totally new to this, so any help would be great. I have been banded for 5 weeks and lost 20lbs. YAY for me. I got my first fill today 3cc. (My Dr. does 3cc on the 1st & 2nd fills) about 15 min after my fill I was throwing up foam (slimming) I had to return to the Dr. immediatly to get 1.5 cc removed. Anyways my Dr. said he has never seen ANYONE be too tight on a first fill. Crazy. He said it could be a good thing, that maybe I wont need many fills to get to my sweet spot. Has anyone else experienced this on a !st. fill? thanks and good luck to ya all

The first and last time a PA did my fill she poked a hole in the line to my port causeing (at MY expense) another surgrey to replace it! I will NOT let a PA do the fill any longer unless they have excellent history. Stand up for yourselves and demand someone that knows exactly what they are doing. You are paying for it.

SPeaking of paying for it does anyone know of a fill clinic that is resonable in North Carolina close to Raleigh? My doc charges $585 a fill or you can do $1000 for a year with fills every 4-6 weeks as needed. I only need a reduction at this time and don't anticipate needing any more after that for a long time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
