Banded on 12/4/09. I fell down yesterday am worried I injured my port

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm new here as I was just banded 2 weeks ago today. I am 5"7 and weigh 278 (sharing my stats so you can help me judge whether a fall at my size could damage my incision/port). I fell yesterday and hit my knees and hands, but afterward, I felt pain in my stomach, esp. around the port scar. It has healed fairly well and it's just a little scabbed. Nothing on the outside of my incision appears damaged, but I was unable to sleep on my side or stomach last night (which I have been able to do) and this morning, when I sit, I have pain in that area. The pain is there when I sit, but not when I stand. The incision looks no different than yesterday, but I'm worried something may have happened on the inside. I have a call into my doctor (who is in surgery today and his nurses are making rounds), so I thought I'd come on here and see if anyone has had a similiar experience, just a few weeks post surgery. I would imagine the pain would be constant and much worse if I had damaged my port, but I really don't know. Any help or advice anyone can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm glad you called your doctor. I don't have any experience with this but have worried about falling on the ice and causing damage. You're still very new post-op and it takes time for everything to heal inside, so the wisest thing is to check with the doctor (and nurses, who often know more or are kinder in talking with me, anyway). Good luck and keep us posted!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
