I am still trying to decide if I can afford the surgery or not since I have to pay for it myself. Has anyone used Dr. Carter at the specialty surgery center in Hurst? Also, is anyone sorry that they got the band?

Hi Vonnie,

I didn't use Dr. Carter, but I did use Dr. Snow, who also uses the Specialty Surgery Center in Hurst. The staff at the center are awesome! Dr Snow and Carter, along with a couple of other Doctors are part of the AIGB Group. Good luck!

Vonnie....I used Dr. Jayaseelan in Dallas but I had my surgery at the Surgery Center of Richardson. I think Dr. Jay is wonderful and everyone at the Surgery Center are really great. Most that work there have had the lapband surgery so it's so nice that they know exactly what we're going through. That made me very comfortable. As for being sorry that I got the band.....a great big ole heck NO I'm not sorry! The only thing that I'm sorry about is that I didn't know about the band sooner! I've been overweight for the past 25 years and the last couple of years it had gotten so out of control that I was killing myself and I know that....actually killing myself with food, pure and simple. Now with my band, I have my life back in check and I'm on my way to being a healthier and much happier person. When people ask me if I'd do it over again, I answer them that I'd do it on a daily basis if I had to. I know that the band works differently on everyone. Heck it works differently on me nearly every day but the key word is...it works! Check around and see what your options are with financing possibly. I know that prices sure vary from doctor to doctor and facility to facility so do your homework. If you have any questions or concerns, I'm only an email away!

I used Dr. Wade Barker in Mesquite, even though I live in Ft. Worth. He is both highly skilled, professional and caring. I would recommend him to anyone and will use him again in the future if I need any surgery.

Good luck to you,

Deby

vonnie,

RE: "I am still trying to decide if I can afford the surgery..."

Yes, I have, and Dr. Carter is not only great , but has an excellent bedside manner and he and his staff will make you feel very comfortable :tt2:! HE IS A GREAT SURGEN!

Now: First and formost, you can't NOT AFFORD the surgery. Not only will it save your life, but your will MORE than make back whatever it costs in reduced meds, healthcare costs, insurance premiums, comfort and a thousand other things.

Also, I believe I have a card that you can use to get $500 off the cost (other that have had the surgery may also have them). I gave one to another friend that jut had it done and that is what she saved...she also paid for it all herself. Let me know if you are interested. I think you have to tell them you are being referred by someone and have the card.

I, being VERY LUCKY, having GREAT insurance...it only cost me $20! Total! Remember cost wise that you have to go back for scheduled “fills” and that can be an additional expense. For me, it’s $20 each visit but I don’t know what it would be for you.

Now :), if you don’t want to lose weight, lose it easily, not feel deprived of your “special foods”, don’t won’t to reduce your grocery & eating out budget by 3/4ths,, don’t want to look years younger and live longer, then whatever the cost, it’s not worth it :cool2: (Tongue in cheek).

I had it done 5 months ago by Dr. Carter. I wanted to lose very slowly…I started at 345 and now weight 290, so I would give it a "TWO THUMBS UP"!

Hope this helps...feel free to contact me.

Drew

vonnie,

did you get banded yet? I used Dr. Carter. I am ok with him. I was disappointed that at my 3 week post op appt I didn't get to see him at all but only the office people. I wish that when you had a post op appointment you actually spoke with the person that actually performed the surgery.

Me and my husband are scheduled to be banded on the 17th, and have our appointment with Dr. Carter on the 15th. We are getting very excited about the whole procedure.

I used Dr. Carter on Dec. 17th and I am very happy. I too did not get to see him on my post op, he was out of town this week. It did not bother me though, I have had no problems whatsoever. My scars are also alot smaller than other pictures I have seen here so thats a plus. Ive lost 22lb and I can fit in clothes that havent fit for about a year so everything is pretty cool.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. Verbally abusive and doesn't take the time to talk to you. Herds patients in like cattle.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
