left shoulder and upper chest pain

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else have pain in their shoulder and upper chest? I was banded 2 years ago and lost 100 pounds before getting pregnant. Unfortunately, I gained 40 back when my band was let out for the pregnancy and now have it nice and snug again. I don't remember this pain when it was tight last time. I know it's not a heart attack because it's been happening daily since my last fill. Anyone else have this and if so, do you know why it happens?

mcompton,

I was banded 11th sept 2009 and still get pain in both shoulders. Talking this over with my doctor he advised me that when a band is put in place they damage the tissue around the band and sometimes the nerves are also damaged and this is why some people get this pain. He told me that in most cases the pain goes and the tissue repairs, but there are some patients who will have this continue for a very long time.

I live in the UK, but I had my surgery in Belgium.

Katy

Gas pain can cause the shoulder and chest pains too. Maybe you have a gas bubble stuck in your band. My Dr says that Mylanta/gas works better than the gas strips. You might give that a try. Hope it gets better soon. And congrats on the baby!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
