I am 5 weeks post op and i just got my second fill. This seems a little fast to me, but my doc said get you butt isn here if you can eat more than a cup and can not go 4 hours between meals. Well, I have wanted to eat everything in site and everything goes down just fine. So now I am up to 4 cc's. Just wondering how many cc's everyone else has and when they started to really feel restriciton. I h ave a 10 cc band. Have a great Christmas everyone.

Wow I am 8 weeks post-op and I am still waiting for my first fill LOL! Sorry I can't help.

So, were you eating a full 8 oz/cup of food? I'm so scared of stretching my pouch and I don't officially measure most of the time, so I'm thinking I'm eating 8 ounces (when I think it should be 4-6) because I'm starving! Just hoping I'm not doing any damage....

It's really not a good idea to compare what fill level works for somebody else to what is working for you. Everyone is different and with all the different bands on the market there really isn't any comparison. Just go by how YOU feel!

While it is true that everyone is different it is sometimes helpful to know how it is for other people just to alleviate a fear a little bit but not to obsess about it. I am at a very, very good level right now with 7.8 cc's.

I'm in the same boat at Juliansmom - I'm not due for my first fill until 12/23 and I'm a nervous wreck about it. I'm still very sore at the port site and not looking forward to having it pressed and prodded.. not to mention a needle shoved in it! :)

I too am not measuring and I'm hungry before 4 hours but I'm doing the best I can with not eating more than 1/2 to 1 cup at a time. I think I'm more to 1 cup though. I hope I'm not stretching the pouch either. :)

I like your doctors philosiphy. the cc's are arbitriary. Since some can get restiction with 3cc's in a 10cc band and others it takes 9cc's. I got 5.2 in my first fill (9cc realize) and nothing. 2 cc's after that and I have pretty good restriction. Could be a little more but I am going to give it a bit. Prior to my second fill I could swallow a bowling ball whole. Now I struggle to get 1/2 a cup of the "right" foods in. Sadly. Resse cups still go down quite easily but I am working on it.

I am 4 months out and had my 2nd fill on 12/14 and i am at 4.5 cc's. That does seem fast I guess you have to trust your doc but I would be afriad of band erosion.

What is the connection between the quickness of fills and band erosion? I had never heard this....

I had my second fill yesterday, my surgury was October 28th and on my first fill I received 3.2 cc's. Yesterday I received another 1.5 cc's. On my first fill there was little restriction, I could eat about anything and only a couple of things gave me problems. Now I can barely finish an 8 oz Protein Shake, I am on liquids today and back to mushy tomorrow and then solids. My doctor recommended a shimp fork to help me not eat so fast and to remind me to chew food. I am part of a band study, so my fills have been pretty close to my surgury

I am 8 wks out have not had a fill yet ,I have good restriction and continue to lose weight. My Dr explains that everyone is different and he dose not do a first fill untill you stop loseing weight. He said that about 15 % of ppl banded never need a fill. I 'll keep hopeing to be one of the lucky ones.

I got my first fill this past Monday. 4cc's in a 10 cc. Was told that will be the largest fill I receive. I can pretty much eat anything as long as I chew it good. I have gotten stuck a couple of times and that is PAINFULL!! I still get hungry every 2-3 hours. I was told to be patient so I am trying. I have lost 15 lbs since surgery and didn't gain that two weeks I was starving after the swelling in my stomach went away so as long as I don't gain - I'm cool for now. No telling what it's gonna take to get me to my sweet spot but I am ready to be there!

That does seem like a long time to wait. I had my second fill Wednesday and I was banded on the 19th of October. Now I have 6cc in a 14cc band. Today, every time I eat something not pourable (soup, teas etc) I have this feeling like I'm going to hurl. I think I may be hitting the land of restriction! Strangely enough, I'm still starving...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
