  1. Just got my surgery date for May 12th....anyone else having theirs that day?
  2. Hello to All, Im a local guy looking to meet whenever whether its the gym, to chat about different topics, or offer support to other newbies like me. I thought I'd post because the people at the support groups I go to seem to stick to their generation more than younger ones. That is not a knock on any mature sleevers just an observation. Thanks and have a great day.
  3. Hi, My name is Ann. I have completed my pre-supervised weight management program. I am awaiting insurance approval to have gastric bypass surgery with Dr. Sorenson @ St. Luke's in Kansas City. I m looking for a female mentor and exercise support buddies in the KC area. Thank you very much, Ann
  4. Just a couple of statements I wanted to make. One, I really enjoy blogging. It makes me feel less alone in my journey. I am honored and humbled whenever I receive a response stating that I have made someone laugh, or smile, or feel less embarrassed about something they have done or thought. Two, I would love to have more interaction with other members. There are so many options on this site to connect with others. I'm not sure which option to choose from one moment to the next. In so many words, HELP! I am still a newbie and I would really like some friends. I want to follow the blogs of others: I follow you, you follow me and so forth. I just learned how to make a ticker the other day and I'm still working on my signature. So feel free to friend me, leave comments, show me the ropes. MOST OF ALL: If there is one thing that I wish ALL OF YOU to know it is this: No matter how you started this journey. No matter where you are on your journey. You are SUCCESSFUL because you are STRIVING to LIVE a BETTER, HEALTHIER, and hopefully HAPPIER LIFE. You are MOVING FORWARD because you are reaching out to others and utilizing the tools necessary to keep you on track and motivated. You are an INSPIRATION, because every time you post whether to ask or answer a question, to motivate or encourage, or you are simply a kind hearted hot mess such as myself (smile)...you are REINFORCING another person's resolve to keep reaching for their goals and UPLIFTING another's spirit. So please, DON'T LET A BAD DAY, A FOOD SLIP UP, THE SCALE, OR CRITICAL PEOPLE RUIN YOUR MOMENT. Whenever you feel discouraged or down, REMEMBER that YOU made the choice to LIVE. I wish you all the best and MANY DAYS OF LAUGHTER!
  5. Hi I am currently waiting for my surgery date I have been approved. Looking for a mentor to help me along this new journey called life. I weighed this morning at 417 my goal right now is to be under 400 by surgery of which I anticipate to be around middle of March. My surgeon is Dr. Daniel Fang of Bridges Weight loss Center of excellence. Thank you
  6. Hi there, So this is my first post. Bypass scheduled for August 8th, and dealing with a pretty restrictive pre-op diet because I haven't been able to lose the weight my surgeon wanted me to. I know a lot of people have a more intense pre-op diet than me, but this one got dropped on me at the last minute, and I'm really having a tough time getting my head around it. I know it sounds crazy, but I feel truly devastated about what I think of as "losing food" as part of my life. I never realized how out of control my eating was, or how dependent I am on food until now. I am surprised because I have been able to eat nothing but Water for over a week in the past, but that was part of an eating disorder and I guess I knew I could always binge again in the future. This time I know that I won't be able to do that. I feel so sad when I see other people eating carbs, in a similar way as I used to feel sad when I saw people in happy relationships. I guess it's jealousy, and frustration about not being able to have a "normal" life. I'm wondering if the reason I am still single is because food has always been my primary partner. Whether bad or good, my relationship to food has been a huge part of my daily life. I guess I'm starting to panic, knowing that won't be true anymore. I'm also struggling everyday because my weight has really started to disable me in the last few months. It's very difficult for me to go to the theater, or find seats in public, or travel, or even walk anymore. I guess I keep questioning whether I can actually do this really hard thing (surgery) that I know I have to do if I want to have a life worth living. I'm sorry for rambling, but I really didn't know where else to turn. Does anybody else relate to these feelings? I haven't been able to go to the support group at my hospital because it is really far away, and during times when I'm busy. Would anyone consider being a "bypass buddy" with me? I think if I knew anyone going through something similar it might help. Anyway, thanks to anyone who even reads this. It's funny, you all are total strangers but now you know my darkest secrets really. Well, sorry to be a downer. Cheers! Amy

    Anyone In Oregon?

Looking for some oregon buddies to maybe meet up 1 or 2 times a month, help each other out and be a good support team! Let me know if you live in Oregon and are interested in doing this with me I am just starting my gastric bypass journey so the more support and friends the better!
  8. Actionsteph

    Problems with BFF.

My bff and I are both having vsg surgery soon and I was excited untill lately. We have a pretty small social circle about 5 or 10 people, everyone seems to be so excited and supportive of her but they hardly care about me. At first I thought it was me so I stepped back and now I see that there is more support for her. I also noticed that she's been making this journey a competition when I just wanted to enjoy it. Like when I got my refferal she pulled ou a 2 year old one and switched to my insurance since it covers the surgery. Then she decided to also choose the same surgeon. And now that I have my first visit scheduled she wants to go with me since her referal hasn't been approved, she's hopping to piggy ban the appointment. I don't want to suffer but I also want to make this journey enjoyable and simple for her.
  9. I would love to meet some other people in the area! I have been hesitant to go to the support group that my hospital recommended as I have not yet submitted my info to insurance and feel like if I go to these groups it will get my hopes up for something that is not set in stone....
  10. Here's a little information about me! (I meant a mentor, typo. Sorry) My name is Nadia.I'm 18, I live in Pennsylvania and my surgeon is Dr Teasun Moon of Wimber,Pa. I've been overweight from early childhood to now. My starting weight was 282 and I'm now down to 265.5. I start my liquid diet on December 29! If your on a similar time frame, I'd love to talk to you and share our experiences. Some of my other interests are fashion, astrology, make up and Classic rock. I also love to read, cook and do yoga. My only requirement for my bypass buddy is that they be committed to getting healthy. I'm doing this to live longer and be healthier but I'm also doing it in honor of my mother, she passed away in 2011 due to a heart attack related to morbid obesity. I'd also prefer someone that would like to communicate via other mediums (Facebook,Skype, text) as well as this one!
  11. Hello everyone, My name is Alex I am from Des Moines IA, I have been coming to these boards for a couple of weeks. I joined the boards today as I would like to have friends/buddies for this new journey. I have my final consultation today in about 3 hours to set up my actual surgery date. I am feeling the nervousness and jitters. I visited several boards but this community seem more embracing... so I humbly ask everyone for guidance and advice... im scared about the pre op diet/failure... and post of complications...

  13. Heyy!! I was banded July 26th with a BMI at 32 (at 5'0)...and needless to say I am having a tough time trying to lose weight! I have only lost 17 pounds in almost 5 months...not the results I had hoped for. I am looking for people with similar stats to be able to talk to and discuss each others' journeys! Is anyone looking for a low BMI banded buddy to help keep other accountable?
  14. Hello!! I don't want to give out a lot of personal information but i wanted to come on here in the buddies section to hopefully find some friends around my age that are going through the same thing as me. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually an 18 year old with the mind of a 70 year old cat lady. We can chat about progress, encourage each other in like, I dunno, a group chat! (because lord have mercy on my lazy soul I NEED encouragement) I don't mind friending older people, please dont think thats how im trying to come off. I figure a lot of older people wouldn't want to hear about my ridiculous youth antics haha! I'm also seeking people on the internet because my program everyone is 30+. I do believe i'm the only one in my group without my tubes tide. Ya know if not, it's fine,
  15. Hey guys! Long time member first time talker. I finally, after years of waiting for the right insurance and financial situation, got my surgical date for May 5th for the LapBand. I am super dooper excited! To help my family and friends understand what's going down and also track my recovery and weight loss, I've made a blog. It's still in Beta mode, the template is done but it's not populated with much content yet. But while I get the site launch-worthy, I'm wondering if any other banders out there would like a shout-out link, and maybe link back to me. So many of you have already motivated and inspired me, and I'd love to be able to network. Let me know what you guys think! Here is a sample preview of what the blog looks like so far: LapBand Bandwidth
